Guest guest
Deb, It's a hard decison to make to file for SSDI. I wanted to tell you that you are not a failure becuase you can no longer work. None of us grow up to say " I want to be on disability when I grow up " . The pain that we feel doesn't define us. Pain is just a feeling. I filed for SSDI in September of '07 and I was approved March '08. I am lucky that it was short compared to most people. What I have heard is that it depends on which state you live in. I can only speak for myself. After I filed online and went over my answers with someone on the phone...I physically went to my local social security and dropped off my medical records for the past 3 years. I got a disability attorney right away. He put in a motion for hearing (which is about a year wait) from when I detained him since most people get denied. To my suprise and my attorney's...I was approved on the 1st try. He canceled my hearing. You don't have to have an attorney, but I honestly think it helped my case. Even though I physically can't work anymore...its hard mentally. I see a therapist who helps me with the depression and it helps. Best of luck to you. > > > Good evening all, just wanting to talk with people that understand what > it is like. I am having alot of pain this summer. Guest guest
Hi Deb: Sorry you are feeling badly and having so much pain. Have you called your Rheumy? Surely he/she can suggest something to help you manage your pain. I don't know anything about getting SSDI. Many of our members do, and they are very informed as to what to do. I can see why you are depressed, and I am glad you are seeing a Dr. for this. That will help you so much. Your body is telling you that it has had enough, and that you need to slow down and rest. Rest is a wonderful thing. When I feel bad, that is what I do. I read a lot, and enjoy T.V. I also take a daily nap, my Rheumy's orders. Never feel guilty about resting. You need to take care of you right now. I am hoping you will feel better soon. There are better days ahead. Guest guest
Thanks Nichole, It was nice to hear that you didn't have to jump thru hoops, my atty made it sound like I would have to she is the one who mentioned 3 years,,,that must be the time allotment in OH. I am glad that it didn't drag out for you. I have my first appt with a therapist on 8-31. I am hoping that will help also. I have been trying to carry it all in my head for the last few years and I just can't do it anymore. Continued luck to you also. Deb
