Guest guest
I also keep a spray bottle filled with bargain brand listerine on the patio. I just spray it around on the brick & concrete when we are outside and it works great to keep them away! JC > > Hey to all! > I don't know how many of you guys live in areas that get mosquitos but they are HORRIBLE here in SC...............BUT - and I know someone out there has probably heard this before, but my elderly neighbor told me a little secret in how not to get bit by these pesty little " skeeters " as I had been complaining that I get eaten alive every time I just step out to water flowers or go to the mailbox! He told me to take a papertowel and pour some listerene on it and rub all over your exposed body parts. You can use a dollar store brand - but once the liquid evaporates on your skin, the listerene smells disappears. And WHAM! It sure as heck as worked for me. I would have never believed it. I have tried all kinds of " home remedies " like rubbing your skin with a used dryer sheet, etc., etc. to no avail. If you have these nasty little pests in your area, try this! It's cheaper than " OFF " which always leaves a residue that you have to always shower off! > > Living and surviving in this HOT...HOT...HOT place that's my home! > in SC > > > ltdavis_jrdavis@... > > > > >
Guest guest
I have a question and a comment about this post. My question, what does OT mean? My comment about mosquitos.....becuase of the weird weather and all the rain this year in Michigan, the mosquitos are much worse than they have been in previous years. Two weeks ago we had a graduation party for our son and the gentleman who dropped off the portapotty told us of a cheap, easy, and eco-friendly way to keep the mosquitos away. Take a cup of dawn or dove dish soap and mix it with a gallon of water and spray around the perimeter of where you or your guests will be sitting. We tried it then and we tried it last weekend when we had a few friends over for a bbq, and it works! It works for hours, and as long as it doesn't rain, it will even last for a day or two. Why it works, I am not sure, but it also is not harmful to plants or animals. I want to try it on me next, and will keep you posted on my results. Take care everyone. Guest guest
OT stands for " OFF TOPIC " . In watching the discovery channel quite a bit, there was a show on how to get rid of pesky things like nats, wasp, mosquitoes and flies. The show said to use dish detergent and warm water in a spray bottle to use around or in the area you will be using. I had a problem with dirt dobbers and my brother told me to get some dawn dish detergent and hot water and spray them. They evidently do not like the smell of the detergent and they go away. Just as ants and roaches (the big water bugs when it rains or grass is not cut) use alcohol or baby powder with cornstarch to sprinkle on them or use cornmeal (the ants eat the meal and swell up...they die). The alcohol dries them out and they die also. But after it rains they come back. Apparently ants and roaches love water like mosquitoes. The only thing that works for me now is the ant spray and it just kills them on contact and the roaches. The mosquitoes I am trying the listerine on today. Thanks for the idea!!! Guest guest
I like your ideas for wasps, etc ALTHOUGH I am NOT getting close enough to a water bug to sprinkle squat on those suckers! Living where we live - near a lake and close to the coast, we get the water bugs. I have never known a bug could be so big and some have wings! Every time my husband hears my blood curdling scream, he knows one has gotten into the house! I am petrified of them. I will use a half can of Raid to kill one! And not only do they have wings, but I swear some can put it into 4 wheel drive and haul a** across my carpet! I wish there was a way where I would never, ever see one. We've been lucky this year because there's been plenty of rain and they only seem to come into the house (probably thru their own elevator thru the vent system or something!!) when it's been dry..........If anyone has a solution to THOSE monsters, I'd like to know ! in SC ltdavis_jrdavis@... Guest guest
Yes - I would really like to know if it works on your skin AND if there's a residue. .......So far, the listerene has been the only thing that works on me other than OFF. But as I stated in my original post, it leaves a residue and it's just icky. Not to mention pretty darn pricey if you have to use it every single day AND deal with icky skin? Nope - not for me. I have been so happy with the listerene - no smell (after it dries of course) and no residue. They used to have a truck that went thru our neighborhood and sprayed for mosiquitos but they stopped. I don't know if it was not environmentally friendly and/or budget cuts. ltdavis_jrdavis@... Guest guest
Not sure if your question of OT was answered -- sometimes I get too busy and skim over replies! I know, I' m awful!! OT is for Off Topic ----- I had the same question the other day!!!! My hubby was like, that means overtime......well, after I read aloud some of the emails, he wasn't so sure of himself! hehehe! No............he's wonderful - he thought he was actually helping me so I give him full credit BUT it was a very silly comment for him to have made because it made no sense to the emails I was reading! hehhehehehe! We all love our spouses - they try soooooo hard - but it's this wonderful group who truly understands the mess we all go thru! Love you guys!! in SC ltdavis_jrdavis@...
