Guest guest
That one phrase can really throw you right back into old ways of thinking? My husband, in passing, said " I'd like to start eating healthier. I've gained weight in the last month. " My mind heard " DIET!! DIET!! Eat something quick because you won't be able to have anything at home anymore! " Now I want M & M's. I'm here instead though. Deep breaths...Whew!! Guest guest
I often wonder if it was the ringing of the bell or something 'added' to the food (of Pavlov's dog)?!? lol Either way, its scarily amazing how conditioned we are encouraged to become when it comes to something as natural as eating. Images, experts and internal acceptance of all 'shoulds' driving what really is an internal need. Good for you Jennie to 'see' what was happening and choose what would result in what you really want - for yourself ehugs, Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > That one phrase can really throw you right back into old ways of > thinking? > > My husband, in passing, said " I'd like to start eating healthier. Guest guest
I know what you mean... it has taken me months just to get less sensitized to food and weight talk (I hear it fairly frequently, even among my friends who are mostly normal eaters), and yet still, sometimes, with enough exposure, or the wrong twist of a phrase, it will really get under my skin and start making me itch to restrict, or do other eating disordered behaviors. I just try to tell myself that they're in their own place mentally, and that I am in mine, and it's OKAY if my mental place doesn't agree with theirs, and it's OKAY if I don't eat the same way they do, or don't want to restrict my calories as they sometimes do. If I don't tell myself these things, I do end up backsliding. ~Carolyn > > That one phrase can really throw you right back into old ways of > thinking? > > My husband, in passing, said " I'd like to start eating healthier.
