Guest guest
If I have a swollen joint as an example my thumb. Should I keep it in a brace and avoid using it or should I continue to use it and exercise it. It really hurts and pops when I first get up, but if I continue to use it then it does not hurt as bad but, my fingers begin tingling and the thumb has no feeling. I am so confused about all this. Are we suppose to not use a joint that is flairing or try to work it out. Thanks for any help. Kathy
Guest guest
In my experience, gentle manipulation of the joint until you feel comfortable using it has worked for me. But there are some times when even that is too painful. Perhaps use a little arthritis rub (in a tube) to help it along. Roxana > > If I have a swollen joint as an example my thumb. Guest guest
Philtymom,   Wondering if you may have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. You mention that your fingers tingle and no feeling in your thumb and may want to go to a hand surgeon and have it check out. I had CTS on both of my wrists. I had surgery on the right one and don't have a problem. Now my left hand like " click " when I move it. I told my Rheumologist that and he said " it's normal. "  Wonder if it is. Best of luck.                                         \                                         \                         Christa ________________________________ From: philtymom <philtymom@...> Sent: Sat, July 31, 2010 3:09:33 PM Subject: [ ] swollen joint question  If I have a swollen joint as an example my thumb. Guest guest
my left thumb (left handed) has a slight deformity on both joints, my rheumy has me splint it at night since I write on carbons and type all day as part of my job. it gets " stuck " sometimes and takes a bit of encouragement to get going. some days it does hurt like heck to get going but usually gets better after a few hours. > > If I have a swollen joint as an example my thumb. Guest guest
I sleep with firm leather gloves on. They're lined with a soft flannel material. Otherwise some of my fingers would be curled into my palm-and take hours to uncurl. Very painful to try to rub them into straightness.
