Hello group,

I am one of the lurkers here. I read all the posts. I am

looking for some ideas and help you can offer me that is

off the topic. My son will be graduating from Navy Boot

camp on Sept. 2 at Great Lakes. My daughter and I will be

going back for the occasion. What would be some fun

things to do as a family if my son gets some liberty time

with us?

We will fly into O'Hare airport and rent a car and have a

hotel in Waukegan, IL. I am looking for some free/cheap

things to do or where to go about finding some good deals

on entertainment. I thought maybe some of you may have

some good deals or have been through this experience

before and could suggest some things.

Thanks to you all.....

Terri

Terri,

I'm not far from where you are staying. I'm not sure what it is you would like

to do when you are out here. Can you list a few things that you like to do? It

can help in trying to figure out a few suggestions. What is the age group?

You can go downtown. There are so many things to see and do. The train goes

right down there or you can drive. It is very expensive to park.

Hi Terri-

I am new to this group, but I lived in Chicago for 15 years and LOVED it! Just

walking around downtown ( If you can ) is a real treat if you enjoy historical

architecture. The Sears Tower is still cheap to do. Have some REAL Chicago style

pizza for dinner and visit a snap-dog vendor for lunch ( a street vendor with a

hot dog cart ).

I don't know how much it costs any more to get into the Science Museum, but it

is well worth the visit. So is the Shed Aquarium, Field Museum, and the

Planetarium. You can ride a tour boat in the harbor, or just hang out by Lake

Michigan and boat and people watch.  Pick one or two.

If your kid was at all like MY kid coming out of Boot-- he just wants to see

YOU. He will have a whole new appreciation for what you have done for him and

how you raised him. He will be so dang glad to see someone that isn't screaming

at him that it really won't matter where you go. Trust me.

Hope that gives you some ideas---

Terri - I live in Colorado, but am from the Chicago area. I am going to see

family in Chicago on Friday. We like to go to Millenium Park - It is really a

nice place to walk around and see the fountains and the Bean!
