Guest guest
Hi - I think I would only allow a neurosurgeon to operate on my neck! They are more familiar with the workings of the spine than an ortho - IMHO and experience. He may not believe in pain meds and choose not to prescribe them, but who is he to tell you you can't take something prescribed by your PC or Rheumy? Also, he (again IMHO) would have no reason to prescribe Xanax anyway, so that shouldn't even be a consideration. I seriously would be looking for a different doctor.....Doreen > > I made an appt with a new ortho surgeon and received a packet of > stuff in the mail to fill out and take with me when I go for first > appt. Guest guest
Hi : I would pass this doctor by, and find myself a good, caring, compassionate one. In this day and age, it makes no sense to me to suffer needlessly with pain each day. I wonder if he has ever had a pain level 10. You so owe it to yourself to find the right and best doctor for yourself. One who cares about you, will work with you, and to get you out of all that pain. Wishing you better days ahead. Hugs, Barbara > > > > I made an appt with a new ortho surgeon and received a packet of > > stuff in the mail to fill out and take with me when I go for first > > appt. Guest guest
Unfortunately, OS's are in short supply around here. The neurosurgeon is the one that sent me to the ortho surgeon. I'm goint to go and see him and discuss it with him. Hopefully, this is just his way of weeding out the drug seekers up front and not wasting his time. Thanks! Guest guest
There are only 3 ortho surgeons in the area that specialize in spines.....I've seen one of them and he laughed at me when I asked him a question, the second is in " partial retirement " and not accepting new patients and the third is the one I have an appoitment with. I'm going to go in and see what he says....I will not stop my other meds on his request. My fil sees him and likes him, so I'm going to give it a shot. If it fails, I'll look for a doctor in Birmingham, which is 90 miles away. Thanks! > > > Hi : I would pass this doctor by, and find myself a good, caring, > compassionate one. Guest guest
Hi - I wanted to chime in if you don't mind! Barbara was right about finding another doctor. That is of course you don't have issues with yours once you meet with him. I personally would find a major issue with " a " doctor telling me I couldn't take certain needed medications prescribed - LEGALLY by another doc. Unless he has a " god " complex of course.....he does not have the right. Is he going to take it upon himself to treat your other health issues? Of course not - he's a specialist in his field. So - that's just not right. If you don't like him - this is what I did but it was for a good RA doc instead. My local RA doc wanted me to go to the Medical Univer. Of SC in ton - 2 hrs away--- > > > Hi : I would pass this doctor by, and find myself a good, caring, > compassionate one. Guest guest
Hi , If I were you, I would run far far away from the doctor you described. I have fired two rheumatologists in the past four years. What kind of rheumatologist does not prescribe pain meds....one that does not have a clue what RA is all about and all the pain it causes. I don't care what kind of degrees some of these doctors have, they have no conceivable way of knowing the pain unless they live with it on a daily basis. I don't care if they have a thousand patients.....they still don't know. The medications they prescribe to patients with RA is a joke to me.....I am a very stubborn person when it comes to the crap they want me to put into my body, and I have tried almost all of them, the older meds anyway, and if my body says stop taking them, then I do. For the costocrondritis, which is extremely painful, talk to your doctor about Voltaran....it is a anti-inflammatory pill that I find helps, but I don't take it as prescribed...I don't take two tablets twice a day, every day, I take it when my chest and neck hurts, and I took one last night because I was so swollen everywhere. Prescription for marijuana.....I am going to ask my rheumatologist this month how she would feel about prescribing me mj....this has become my favorite method to fight my pain and depression, anxiety, and guess what....it is more natural than any drug on the market, so if she has a problem prescribing it, well, I guess I can and will still find it elsewhere. Take care, and I hope you feel better soon. And if he operates on my neck, I will relieve the pain some how! This relationship may not last long.....
