Guest guest
I've been eating intuitively now since the beginning of october, and have been (mostly) feeling better. yesterday, out of curiosity i weighed myself to see if I had lost weight (i honestly felt like i had lost a pound or two at least) but it turns out i GAINED weight. like 4 pounds. and now i'm feeling completely defeated and lost. has anyone else experienced this? i know its completely individual, but will i ever really lose weight? how long does it take the average person?? Haha, yes. Told me some lesson. I won't step on the scales anymore before quite a long time is over... Regards s.
Guest guest
Just remember that it is the diet mentality that says that weight loss should be a evenly downward sloping line. In Intuitive Eating, the line is more jagged - you may gain, you may maintain, you may lose weight - you probably will do all three in your IE journey!!! The scale still tempts me with its siren song - but I have to remember that is what it is - a Siren's song that sounds beautiful but will leave me stranded and broken on the rocks. I am still guilty of stepping on the scale - and still waiting to see a weight loss - but the number doesn't own me as much as it used to. Most of the time I look on the scale as a remnant from the past - the time when MY opinion of myself didn't matter/wasn't important. I was so focused on what did OTHER people think of me, my weight, my food choices, etc. The scale was another way of punishing myself for not " measuring up " - a very painful way to live, indeed. Intuitive Eating is about turning inward and listening to your own Best Self, finding out what is true for you. I have not lost any weight so far (been doing this since Mar '08) but I can see that I have gained a lot more in my life. I am able to maintain a weight and still eat everything that I want (and I don't mean that little unsatisfying sliver of something after starving myself all week on WW). I am walking and moving every day and finding I really need that movement to keep my anxiety level manageable. I am much kinder to myself and the poisonous old self-criticism tapes that used to play constantly are barely there these days. In the beginning, checking in with myself about my hunger, satiety or food cravings took a lot of effort. Now, through the use of yoga and meditation, I am checking in more often with myself on other matters - am I anxious? do I need to get away from my desk? Gee, I am feeling " squirrelly " - do I need to go speak up if I am feeling resentful? Sometimes when I know a particular day at work will be challenging, I wear a watch that chimes on the hour and practice deep breathing and checking in with myself each time it rings. If I don't pay attention to these early warning signals, I find myself in a binge - which is happening very infrequently now!! If you started at the beginning of October, you are just getting started on your journey - give it time to improve your life, not just your weight! > > I've been eating intuitively now since the beginning of october, and > have been (mostly) feeling better. yesterday, out of curiosity i > weighed myself to see if I had lost weight (i honestly felt like i had > lost a pound or two at least) but it turns out i GAINED weight. like 4 > pounds. and now i'm feeling completely defeated and lost. has anyone > else experienced this? i know its completely individual, but will i > ever really lose weight? how long does it take the average person?? >
