Guest guest
It is still hard for me at times determining what I am hungry for but mostly what I do most of the time is eat what I am craving I had been craving a hamburger for a few days so I ate one today and It tasted really good because I was hungry. I have alo notice that my mouth waters when I feel hungry for a particular food . I hope this helps. Eva I can't speak for other beginners, but I know for me it is nearlyimpossible to figure out what I am hungry for. Of course, I know thisis from years of letting outside sources tell me what I should eat,and 4 recent months of planning my food out the day before and eatingwhen it was time, regardless of how I felt. So I know it will takesome time.I think I've been letting myself get too hungry lately, and I need towork on honoring my hungry. But I would appreciate tips on detectingwhat exactly I'm hungry for at a given hungry moment., DCIE since 9.12.08------------------------------------
Guest guest
Hi , I remember during my first few months of Intuitive Eating, I felt like I had come down from another planet and was suddenly faced with the challenge of figuring out what kinds of food I liked and didn't like. After a lifetime of eating foods based solely on whether they were really good for me (dieting) or really bad for me (bingeing), I honestly had no idea. For me, it has been a matter of trial and error. I just had to look at foods in the grocery store and see what looked good to me. If I went to a restaurant, I would order a few appetizers instead of a meal so I could sample a variety of food. I don't know if your budget can handle it, but I have found eating in restaurants to be the best way to discover my food preferences. At home, it is much easier for me to fall back into my old diet mentality routines: beef, chicken, or fish. Of course, during the first few weeks, I ate mostly fun foods that I had been deprived of during a lifetime of dieting. However, I quickly discovered that those foods did not really taste all that good and definitely did not make me feel good. Guest guest
, The best method that I've come up with for helping myself figure out what I want was to create a list of all of the foods/meals I love/like for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. When I'm stumped, I take a look at this list and it helps me identify something I'd like to eat. I also use this list to create my grocery list, so that I have foods that I like in the house. I've added to this list as time has passed when I remember additional foods or discover new foods. I also remember that a while back another member suggested that we ask our self what we want based on the type of food...do I want something crunchy, chewy, smooth, warm, cold, etc. That method also works for me.
