And I mean that too! If there is just a stapleline line than no problem.

If the contents of your stomach cavity spill into your abdominal cavity then

you are in trouble medically. Life threatening.

I want to chime in on this. Personally, I wouldn't go to a surgeon who let

anyone eat solid foods before having a barium swallow. From what I've read,

if solid food leaks into the abdominal cavity and people don't realize it

they can die. I know you could get a leak after the barium swallow, but I

wouldn't go to a doctor who didn't require one.

I would like to interject that my doctor doesn't require one. He feels that

if he even thinks there is a leak he will immediately go back in not risking

precious time for testing. He is a very good surgeon. The passing of gas

is his test that everything is in working order. As I said he is and

excellent surgeon. I would bet my life on him and in fact did........ But

this is just my .02
