I've got a couple of good ones. When I was first diagnosed I was trying to

explain the pain to my cousin, and told him it was kinda like having the flu

with all the aches and pains, plus swelling, etc. His response was " can't you

just ignore it? " Another time shortly after being diagnosed I explained to my

younger sister about auto-immune diseases and rheumatoid arthritis and she said

" Oh, I have that in my neck! " I still go to work, blah blah blah. Seriously, not

listening people.

Recently, I went to the grocery store and a car stopped to let me walk in front

of it. I tried to wave him on but he insisted. So, I begin my slow stroll across

the lane in front of him, and he BEEPED at me! Sheesh! Darned if you do, and

darned if you don't.

Sometimes I wish I had a T-shirt I could wear on bad days that explained in

short precise words that I hurt, sorry if I'm slow. Or something to that effect.

I have a T-shirt that says -

" Feel free to Whisper, Point and Stare or just ask Questions "

I wear it on red letter days....

My son has gout, and I don't think he's found any magical remedies.

But a few doses of prednisone help him more than anything else.

Yep I once had a 'friend' comment on my messy apt and I asked her how much

housework she gets done when she has the flu? Because that's what it feels like

with joints screaming too.

She said " oh it can't be that bad "

She's right. It's worse.

I just told another RA friend, the women with young children who deal with RA

are true warriors. I am one of the 'lucky' ones who's children are grown and

(almost) gone. Makes it a lot easier to deal with RA.

You, are my hero! Many <gentle> hugs and much admiration your

Throw in two small children, a dog and 3 cats and you have my house. For the

past two days I've been stepping over lightbright pegs, little plastic beans

from Don't Spill the Beans game, and stickers all over the floor, my 4 yr old

raided her older sister's toy box and had a field day. I just don't have it in

me to crawl all over the floor picking up pegs, the older child screams " but I

didn't make the mess " , the younger just laughs and throws something else. The

dog stands in my face and barks at me to let me know I'm not feeding her. So

tired. Hopefully at 7am one day this week I will have a spark of energy and my

shopvac in hand and the lightbright pegs and magic beans will be a memory that

will never again grace my house.

LOL, . At least you haven't lost your sense of humor! Those

kids will one day grow up, and they will undoubtedly give you problems

still, just not the same ones.

Seriously, I hope you have some better days soon.

elizabeth, I feel your pain. I have 2 small children myself, my dd is 7 and my

ds is 5, and i get the I didn't do it mess all the time. I tell my dd that by

helping me out with something, even if she didn't make the mess helps mommy be

able to do other things for her and keeps mommy from hurting. At the end of the

week after she has helped me and my son as well, I take them for a special

treat. This week they get 2 treats, I'm taking them fishing on thursday and

they are going to delaware with grandma and pop pop for the weekend. Every week

its something new for them. Last week, I had enough money and energy to take

them to the local carnival. Not all the time is it something where I have to

spend money either. I try to toss it up a little and show them by helping me

out in the house that I have extra energy to spend directly with them instead of

using that little energy to clean up after them.
