Guest guest
Alana, I have never eaten alone in a restaurant before! You are making me want to try it I've gone to the movies by myself Kim IE since Aug 08 Subject: Mindful eating again! To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Friday, October 31, 2008, 4:33 PM I did it again! Today I went to an Indian restaraunt that had a lunch buffet. I don't know too many people that like indian food. We have a new restaraunt that I've been wanting to try. It has gotten really good reviews and the chef I guess used to cook for the Dalai Lama. I was by myself and again, on purpose, I did not bring a book. I went through the buffet and took just a small amnt, about 2 tblsp of each item. Then I tasted each thing and if I didn't like I didn't finish it. Most everything tasted really good. I ate slowly and mindfully really taking in all the different spices and flavors. Hmmm, I could get used to and actually enjoy eating by myself without any book! Maybe someday I just might enjoy eating at home in the same fashion without the company of the TV. Definately a work in progress! One thing I have observed is that rarely do you see a woman eating by herself in a restaraunt. And if you do, they usually are reading something. But I have seen many men eating by themselves. Sometimes they are reading, many times they are not. I was wondering what other's experiences are in eating by themselves, esespecially in restarants. And would especially love to here some of the men's perspective on this.Alana

When you travel for work a lot you get pretty used to eating alone in restaurants. But I still prefer to have something to read when I'm alone. Although probably over 50% of the time I forget to bring a book or magazine until I sit down at the restaurant. I wonder if more men travel for a living than women and that's why you notice more men eating alone. I still feel a little self-conscience about it even though I've done it a lot. I think eating out is seen as a social thing, so it feels kind of lonely to me to eat alone when all the other tables are full of conversation. Guest guest
That great Alana! Thanks for sharing! I don't think I have ever eaten alone in a restaurant. You make me want to go and do it! Guest guest
Hi Arnie, Thanks for your reply. I think you've hit on something, that it's a social thing and it is lonely when there are tables with groups of people conversing. I had been wondering if men felt more comfortable eating alone. I guess you ansered that question for me. Alana > about it even though I've done it a lot.
