Guest guest
,  I was in the same position as yourself and was also warned by a colleague not to disclose any further information to my direct Supervisor. I had also been warned by my fiancee, who said he had witnessed first hand what happens to people who are too honest. Everything changed after I disclosed my disease. I kept HR and my direct Supervisor informed of all doctor appts ( there were many). I provided a doctor's note for every appt and all ER visits I had. I had my Rheumy fill out FMLA paperwork as instructed as this would protect me. Within 6 months I went from a stellar employee on my last review to a incompetent employee. I was managing over 100 people and I finally crumbled and quit after daily verbal abuse from my immediate Supervisor for 6 months. The only regret I have was disclosing my disease. If I had not told them anything and lied like everybody else; I would still have my career. I wish you good luck!  Heidi in Denver From: ldydewinter <kgrounds@...> Subject: [ ] How much to you info share with your employer? Date: Friday, September 24, 2010, 3:20 PM  I have kept my direct supervisor aware of all the tests and problems going on since I accepted the director position at my school back in March. I have not shared much with the owner of the school. I don't know what my supervisor has shared. A colleague (who has epilepsy)pulled me aside yesterday and told me I should not disclose anything to our employers because they would start looking for other reasons to fire us. She has never disclosed her medical problems, even going to the extent of making up a death in the family when she had a grande mal seizure and needed a day to recooperate. I was getting ready to fill out FMLA paperwork because I have to have surgery. This conversation has me paranoid. I am not on the company insurance plan. I make up my sick days--I never want to be accused of shirking! But she has me thinking...am I being stupid in reporting days I am working from home, needed to go to a doctor's appointment or to the ER? The truth is, I'm at the school because I love the students. The pay and benefits are a joke. I'd make more money teaching at a university (!!) or in my own private practice. If I were fired, I'd grieve only because I've never been fired and I would miss my students and fellow teachers. NOT the place. What should I be doing to CMA? Guest guest
Same thing happen to me. I was the greatest then as soon as I told them about the RA everything went crazy. Reviews went down, comments about ability, etc. Companies forget we are humans with families and children and bills like everyone else, plus having RA on top of it.
