Dear All:

I've said before that my doctor has never, ever suggested that I would have

any problem absorbing protein...an ASBS surgeon with 20 years of experience.

Calcium yes, iron yes. He suggests eating protein first, then veggies, then

carbs. I trust and respect him....why in the world would he not mention

this? He doesn't want us using supplements because they are so many calories

and slip through the pouch quickly. No matter if they have sugar or not,

they are a high calorie liquid that does not " stuff " the pouch. I have

always found that animal protein is much more filling.

Right after my surgery, I froze them and made them thicker and they filled

me up until lunch, but not any more. I *do* use them on workout days to get

extra protein and not have a big wad of food trying to do it's thing while I

workout.

I think the message here, as in the rest of life is that " one size does

*not* fit all. " I also do get tired of the protein/sugar stuff. I got

plenty of the sugar talk at our meeting in San last night. I'm at

about 15% of my pre-op sugar levels which is kind of a miracle in itself.

I'm also quite healthy and at an ideal weight.
