Guest guest
Dearest Heidi, thank you friend for a truly wondeful and uplifting post to me. I loved it and it made me feel good about myself. I have saved that post and will re-read several times. Thank you for caring about me so much. A special hug is coming your way friend. Love, Sue #2 -- Re: Re: Very well put Heidi - I have to dido your words. Sue you need to take care of yourself right now and not worry about the group. There will be time in the future for you to be there for others, right now please be good to yourself. I'm glad you're calling your rheumy tomorrow. You might think about asking him for something to help you sleep. Lack of sleep is a big factor in mood and also in pain. Don't let the nurses put you off, you 'need' to talk him sooner than later. I wish I could make things better for you. You have been there for so many of our Stills family during the bumps and I know you're being thought of and prayed for by many here who cherish your friendship. I'm so glad you were able to talk to Connie's husband and give us an update. That means a lot that you are so sick and yet took the time to write. Please try and rest, call the Dr. and let us know how you're doing. Love, Barb in SLC

Guest guest
Hi Lilli, Thanks for the info. From what I've read, they seem to have a pretty good department at AGH. I'm working with Dr. Phanse, and I guess he's referring me to Dr. Kumar for the balloon dilation. Hopefully that will work. Right now I'd trade my left arm for a burger. Guest guest
Heidi, You may want to ask your implant center if they have any patients that have had the implant in an ear that has never been stimulated, and if so, ask how they are doing a year or more post-implant. My surgeon has done a great deal of research on bilateral implantation. He presents his research results at conferences nationally and internationally. He is a firm believer in the benefits of bilateral implantation and has done hundreds of bilateral implants. His research and experience with implants in both ears has confirmed and demonstrated that an implant in an ear that has never been stimulated does not usually produce good discrimination ability, even long term. His publication 'Rationale for Bilateral Cochlear Implantation in Children and Adults' states that the optimal candidacy criteria for bilateral implantation is that " both ears have a favorable hearing loss history (useful hearing either with or without a hearing aid into the teenage years) " . He does not recommend that I have my other ear implanted because it has never been stimulated. His opinion is that I would strongly dislike it for the first year, then would begin to get used to it after a year, but would likely never attain good discrimination ability from an implant in that ear. I did not hesitate to have the implant in my better ear. I did not see it as giving up the little bit of natural hearing that was left - it was an excellent trade for a bionic ear that enables me to hear better than I have in my entire life! I cannot emphasize enough that you should follow the advice of your surgeon / implant team. They are the professionals, and they have the expertise and experience to apply to your hearing history and individual situation. Guest guest
Heidi: I totally agree with you..it is shameful. Our accountant feels that people with lots of out of pocket medical expense should be able to get dollar for dollar back once you reach the 7.5%. Wouldn't that be nice. Guest guest
Have you tried magnesium for chronic constipation? It draws water into the colon and also relaxes muscles. I have taken up to 6 tablets per day for FMS muscle stiffness in the past. The " side effect " is loose bowels when you take too much. Guest guest
Oh wow no I haven't where and how do you buy yours what milgram.............did it also help the stiffness? My gosh I am so stiff I feel like I need to be pulled from both ends and sometimes when I try to stretch way out then I get a cramp. My meds are Paxil, Nexieum, Avapro and Ogen..........all of these are in generic form but I can't spell or think what they are called. I also have Xanax if needed and Voltarin which is a Anti inflamitory. It works pretty good but.........do to the stomach issues I do my best to leave extra things for pain alone because it only makes the constipation worse. Guest guest
Heidi, How did you learn out about the enlarged lymph nodes in the abdomen? At NIH? That is interesting. What about the hollowing of the leg bone of your son. Do they think that is related to any of this or is that something different entirely. Do they even know? Did you learn anything else interesting about HIDs, etc? Bless your and his heart for all you all have been through! Guest guest
Thanks so much! I'm definitely not looking for medical info, just some general info for my visit - what you gave will help a lot! I am negative for celiac's. My kids got tested through a clinical research lab in Texas - they took stool samples and found huge amounts of anti-gluten and anti-casein antibodies in their guts. I'll have to look into DH. My appt is with a hepatologist on Friday, so that's good. Thanks again! Heidi ps - just as a side note, a new thing just developed today, which my kids find hysterical. My fingers often have a small tremor nowadays, but my index finger has developed a twitch today - it looks like my hand is controlled by a string - my index finger swings back and forth from the knuckle, not much - about 1/2 a cm. Weird. Amuses us all though - never know when it'll kick in next!
Guest guest
Be sure to mention the hand twitch to your doctor. You might try to take a picture of it. And/or, write down a description of the twitch, in case it isn't happening while you're at your appt. Some hand twitches are extremely relevant to liver disease and really important in terms of diagnosis. Other twitches aren't liver-related, but might be related to some other disorder. Put your hand twitch on the list of questions that you print out and take with you -- you will make that list, won't you? Harper [ ] Re: Heidi Thanks so much! Guest guest
Thank you for all of the advice (everyone) I may have failed to mention that my rheumy is also a world renouned Lupus researcher " C. Neuwelt " who travels the world to conferences on Lupus. He also teaches at Stanford University here in the S.F. Bay Area. I'm actually quite lucky to have him as he is so in demand that he can't afford to take on " Medi-Cal " patients at his current practice such as me. He's agreed to be my rheumy because he is also my mothers and she is a huge part of his current study. He's extremely interested in the connection between my mother and I as well as my sister who lives in Oklahoma. She has severe AutoImmune issues and is in the DX process as well. I've been going through this 5+ years but only started seeing him 3 years ago. Lost my insurance shortly after becoming disabled and now started seeing him again since my Medi-Cal/Medi-Care kicked in. I spoke with him recently and learned that my most recent lab produced a " weak positive " ANA. But there's a bunch of strange results such as (neg T4 and TSH) but High Thyroglobulin?? Also, High end C1Q compliment component Serum 8.6 and aparently, I am a cardio risk as well (stroke, heart attack etc.) I'm 36 years old with three young children. I can't go through this now. Today has been the worst day ever. I'm in sooo much pain. Is Plaquenil supposed to help with pain? Has anyone ever taken Arava? I'm severely depressed today. Cryin over everything (and that's just NOT ME.)I just started the Arava and Plaquenil almost 2 weeks ago. Also take Protonix but man, my stomache is ON FIRE. Thanks again everyone! Guest guest
Try calling a local church that offers counseling services as many of them are free. Many employ certified counselors with degrees. Also call the crisis hot line which should be listed online for your area. Help is close, I know my sister mans a crisis hotline on Saturdays and can get folks to immediate resources if deemed prudent to do so. I think you will.
