Hi...if your hubby qualifies for SSD (not just through credits but also proving

the disability), he could make approx. $900. on a job (gross per month) and

still receive SSD and Medicare.  He would likely need to pay a Medicare

premium.  SS does require that you prove continuing disability (usually every 2

years but can be more often) to keep those benefits.

I am not sure what state you are in but I work in a Center for Independent

Living in Oregon and we have Work Incentive Coordinators that help people

understand how they can work and not lose their benefits. These people are a

wealth of information regarding social security disability benefits. I would

look online for your local Center for Independent Living and see if they have

someone on staff who can assist or provide you more information.

Good Luck

Subject: [ ] Working and Disabled??

I hear so much from people saying they are surprised my hubby isn't on

disability or getting extra coverage for his condition. He has psoriatic

arthritis and although his blood work is good and he's on medication, he's still

in pain. If he had any sick time last night he would have called in. Maybe

someone out here can guide me in the right area of what to do or who to speak

to.

He's only 35 yrs old, he does have full credits for Medicare and disability. He

does currently work and gets benefits through his job. Can he still work and get

extra medical benefits through Medicare (even though he's so young) or

disability? He's not wanting to go out on disability though. We hear so many

things and when I call all I get is a run around.

Our son get SSI but it's less than $100 a month because of hubby's income. I do

not work because of our son even though I have Crohn's disease. My disease

hasn't prevented me from working. I do not have enough credits for Medicare or

disability. Haven't worked in 10 and a half yrs. We had to watch our income so

our son could get Medicade coverage thru disability. We had no insurance and

even now for me to return to work, my whole check would pay co-pays and stuff

for his visits.

It's really hard to see him like this and right now he's still on MTX 8 pills

once a week, Mobic once a day, and prednisone 7 mg once a day. If the MTX pills

don't work at the dose they can increase it and then from there go to MTX shots

before looking at Enbrel or others. I know Humira for me when the doctor thought

of it, was $250 a month after insurance. Yeah right and we don't qualify for the

drug assistance.

Have you tried the drug assistance offered directly through Humira? I know there

are people on the list who are working/insured who pay $5 a month. Please call

again. Also Enbrel and Simpni have similar programs as well as Cimzia.....
