Guest guest
heat usually helps mine some, but I have a friend who swears by using cold. he has this enormous ice pack that he puts on his lower back. I have a chronic lower back prob and use a lumbar support in my car, office chair, and at home. also, an anti-inflammatory might help some. hope you get some relief soon. Jane in Dallas > > Ow. Ow. Heat, massage cushion, Icy Hot...all help slightly. I'd be grateful for other suggestions!!!! I hate constantly resorting to pain pills but did give in and take two yesterday. > > > thanks VERY much for any/all tips, > Joanne >
Guest guest
I have degenerative disc disease and plenty of lower back pain to go with it. I would try alternating heat and cold packs. For heat pack- dampen a towel and place in garbage bag after folding to size needed. Microwave for 1 minute at atime until you find out how powerful your microwave oven is and therefore how long it will take to heat through. lay on heated towel until it is cold ( takes a good long while ). Then use a cold pack. The cold will help with the inflammation. The heat is for the surrounding muscles to relax with because when they tighten up from compensating ( because you move differently when in pain ) and that makes the pain much worse. Pain is your friend in this instance- it's telling you something is wrong. Settle down and be gentle with it until it heals. I hate taking pain meds too. If you have to work or are very active, go to Doc not for pain meds, but an anti-inflammatory. I am assuming that youare not on one currently for the RA? Anyways, as weird as it sounds- alternating seems to do the trick for me. Hope it helps you Joanne. in SC Ow. Ow. Ow.
