When I'm reading a magazine I find that it's harder to hold that up than to hold a hardback book. I kind of freeze up and cramp, especially between my forefingers and thumbs, where the muscles used to be. C

Guest guest
I have the same problem. My thumbs are easily fatigued by just holding an object for more than a few minutes. Things like holding a pen, cup, steering wheel, hair dryer cause symptoms similar to the ones you describe. I try to avoid carring things with my hands for any length of time. I use tote bags I can throw over my shoulder instead. I try to keep them light weight to save my back! My husband opens those new jars for me. I can handle the ones that have already been opened once. Guest guest
Yes, often my hand " freezes " or cramps a great while exerting great force (I think). It usuallydissipates in a few moments.

My hands have been doing that for years, off and on. SOmetimes I have to take my other hand and force the fingers out of the locked position. I find it humorous anymore when I have to do this. I haven't yet experienced any pain with this " joint locking " , and it does occur mostly in my hands. I have a jar opener that I love - I think I ordered it from Pampered Chef. It is a triangle wedge so it fits any size lid - you just slide the triangle over the lid until it fits and then twist - the triangle shape gives you leverage and stregth that aren't in the hands anymore. I do not have any problems opening lids since I got this little beauty! Ruth Warren
