Guest guest
I am receiving a blood transfusion on Friday because my iron and blood chemistry levels are rock bottom. I'm sort of nervous about a transfusion. And I'm worried because my body doesn't seem to be absorbing iron from any of the suppliments I've been given. How do you keep your iron and Vit. D up? My new dr. said Plaquanil pretty much eats up any Vitamin D or iron so I need to triple my intake! I've cut out caffeine and eat red meat with one meal and all fresh vegis with another for the fiber and other vitamins. I'm wondering if I need a dietician. Triple the iron? I'll never go to the bathroom again if I do that! Help! G
Guest guest
18 months ago I was given blood transfusions (3). I was also fearful. It was wonderful. Within hours I had more energy, was able to walk without holding on to walls etc.... It was a major blessing. Guest guest
I can't ansewer it technically, but what I did was to switch to cast iron pans. I had tried several Iron supplements and it didn't change much. The change of pans did- not huge- but did definitely help. My Vit D is in the basement too. I drink goat milk without added Vit D like that waterery yak in the grocery has. I can't spend more time in the sun due to meds. So what I did was start eating more Salmon, tunafish, yogurt with added Vit D and greens. BIG difference! I hope that helps you. It is often the simple things that do make the difference. in SC I am receiving a blood transfusion on Friday because my iron and blood chemistry levels are rock bottom. Guest guest
As a nurse I teach my anemic moms to cook tomato based sauces such as spegetti sauce, chili, sloppy joes, or any soups with a tomato base in an cast iron skillet. The ascorbic acid in the tomato base will leach iron from the skillet and convert it to ferrous sulfate which is the most absorbable form of iron. This is actually taught in the rural south by public health nurses (or use to be) for a method (not only method) in incresing iron levels. Have you received iron injections? Vitamin C wth iron makes it more absorable. You may already know that. Dale Ellen
