Come to think of it, my voice is intermittently hoarse, although not so

much lately. I teach line dancing and sometimes I am unable to talk loudly and

other times it's fine.

Hello Group,

Thank you, everyone for your much needed input. I've found it comforting to

know I'm not alone. Thanks for the study, and a. I did read it and

it's pretty scary. OKD, I totally understand where you're coming from. Some

things are better left alone. But I will continue to figure out exactly what's

going on. If nothing else, at least I'll know.

Hi,

I'm just like you. I loved to sing but now I can't carry a note. I've been

to an ENT and had endoscopy as well. They found nothing.

Someone recently told me about cricoarytenoid arthritis. While this may not

be the case, it's something to think about.

My son had suffered from horseness and laryingitis for more than 3 years,

went to 2 good ents in the Philadelphia area for this to no avail. I

finally took him downtown to one of the finest ents in the Country, we're

lucky to have him in our area. He diagnosed right away, acid reflux, he

also did the required testing to prove it. Since being on drugs for this he

has not had another problem.

Just in case anyone has this problem and hasn't checked this out yet.

Thank you! I'm going to try again. I'm just worried it's too late to

repair the damage but answers are better than nothing!

Hi OKD.

I too have been stricken with hoarseness to many times.  Mine had

gotten so bad, I was not allowes to talk period, no even a whisper.  Mine was

due to acid reflux, and have been on 2 Prilosec's a day for over 8 years.  I

strained my vocal cords so badly when I had the hoarseness.

I also have polups on my vocal cords.  I have suffered much with my throat

since I was a child.  I was getting abcesses on my throat constantly.  I had a

T & A when I was 1  1/2 years old and there was no reason for me getting these

painful abcesses.  The ENT Dr. would cut them and then I would spend a week in

the hospital.  It was horrible and oh so painful.  Finally the ENT Dr. decided

to take me to the OR, scrape my entire throat, and then see what happens.

There was no medical reason why I was having these painful throats.  After he

did that, I have never had another one and it has been a good 30 years now.  I

am happy to say they are gone.

I do have the ENT Dr. check my throat a lot to be sure the Polups are

not getting bigger.  I know when they enlarge, I do get hoarseness then.

I was so stressed with the hoarseness and that only made my voice

worse.  We all tend to talk over it, then the throat begins to close, then we

can't talk at all.  Very frustrating indeed.

I also want to appoligize to you that I forgot to answer your letter to

me.  I will get some pictures and send them to our group.  Please don't expect

much as I am a beginner folk art panter.  I paint in the Rufus Porter style.

He was an itenerient painter in New England who was fabulous.  When he was in

his teens, he met up with Moses Eaton, a truly great stenciler.  They began

painting houses and rooms together.  They are both the best of the best in

their work.  I truly don't think my folk art paintings would sell.  They are

very popular in N.E. but not here in Florida. I don;t know about California.

thanks for your input and interest in crafts.

I read all the posts each day.  I sure hope you begin to feel better

soon.  I always said RA is a very ugly beast of a disease.

Take care and thanks for your nice letter.

Hugs,

Barbara

Hi Group:

I too suffer from intermittant hoarseness, sometimes I can't speak at all, if I

have talked for a long time, cant get my wind, so to speak its not like being

breathless, its more like you simply cannot get the air to speak, in other

words, its not like asthma (which I get also).

I too have hashimoto's thyroiditis and was told this may be the cause, but I

also have nodules down there and after reading about this type of RA of the

throat I am not suspect that this may be the cause. The ENT wanted to scope me,

and I refused (ugh!), because there is no remedy for this, other than surgical

removal which may alter your voice permanently, so I would rather live with the

hoarseness.
