Guest guest
Hi All! I've been lurking for a week or so now and wanted to introduce myself and start posting. I'm making my way through the IE book and it is really enlightening. I am being concious now about eating what I want - basically " giving myself permission " to eat what I want vs what I should. I've always been up and down and after my son was born, I focused and lost a lot of weight. I did it through e-diets and exercise. Unfortunately, I am very prone to binging and in the past year it has been a real challenge. I think the main reason is that my husband has started traveling every Sunday night through Thursday. I work full time and have two kids - 6 1/2 and almost 5. By the time they go to bed at night, it is about 8:45 and I'm just sitting down to relax in front of the tv. What I've found is that I am staying up way too late and eating. I took up knitting about 10 months ago which does help me keep busy but the binging still happens. Also, I have really limited my exercise claiming I haven't had time since my husband is traveling. I've kind of reached a breaking point and read about IE. As I begin, I've realized that my style of eating is definitly to clean my plate and also to go crazy on the " forbidden " foods. I've started in the past week or so to eat what I've wanted to try and deal with the first principle in the book first. One key challenge though is that I've always had the habit of eating each thing in full before going on to the next thing. I try and " be good " by eating the protien or " main " item first before I go to the sides. What I'm realizing, though, is that I'm not able to check if I'm full without worrying I won't get to the side - which is what I usually prefer. I notice my husband, who is a natural IE eater, always starts with his sides. Does anyone else have experience with this type of challenge?
