Guest guest
Thank you for sharing that, I have a habit of eating my dessert first so I won't miss out and then eating my meal. People think it's "cute" --- If they only knew how much (manipulating) thought went into it and what it does to our feelings..... Yes, a bit of lunch might have been better... Well, there is always next time. Marj To: IntuitiveEating_Support Sent: Wednesday, November 5, 2008 12:06:27 PMSubject: Another lunch experiment I did something different yesterday for lunch. Many of you know of my relationship with ice cream. I have been craving a Dairy Queen Blizzard lately. So, I decided to have a blizzard for lunch. Normally, in the past, I would've told myself I had to eat a "normal" lunch first - you know, at least some protein, vegies ect. So I had my blizzard and I was hungry. But I will tell you that just having ice cream for a meal does not do me well at all. I felt so tired and sluggish all afternoon as well as headachey. Lesson learned? Yes, I do need to eat my "normal" lunch. Maybe the blizzard would be a better snack. Thanks for letting me share.Alana
Guest guest
But what a FUN lesson while you ate it AND you 'answered' your curiosity about it too which is even better. We had a Blizzard last week and it was a disappointment for us both. I'd rather have ice cream at home topped with my home made chocolate syrup or with a nice piece of pie than to pay too much for so little a 'treat', which didn't taste all that good to me anyway. Guest guest
I love blizzards too but find I feel sick afterwards. Even a small is too much. So I started doing something at home that is just delicious. I've been taking a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream and mixing it with a mini chocolate bar or a cookie. I just break the bar or cookie up with my spoon and stir it into the ice cream. And then I wait until it is somewhat melted (5-10 minutes). It's oh so yummy and you can pick whatever you want for in it! I've tried it with a Reese peanut butter cup, a mini Butterfinger and mint girl guide cookies. I've mixed them in my blender before too to make it more "blizzardy" but it's just as good this way and I don't have to wash the blender! Guest guest
Sounds like a yummy lesson to me. I understand though, I've been trying use the excuse that I'm "making peace with food" to rationalize all the junk I've been eating lately...however all it's gotten me was what you described...headaches, sluggishness, and irritableness. I at least felt better when I was dieting. I'm trying to use it as a learning experience and I'm still trying to figure out how to balance out the how to eat more healthy while still honoring my sweet tooth. Have a great day... Guest guest
Good point about "making peace with food", I like that because I can see how my sly mind would let me get there and over do the "things" I am making peace with.... I stepped out and had a normal entree for dinner last night and am hoping I can do it even one more time!!! Guest guest
Hi Dayna, I have been working on IE for about a year and a half now and I am still trying to figure out the balance thing. I still haven't figured out whether to have a balanced meal all the time or if my body prefer's to eat what it's craving and let it balance itself out. I do know it does that naturally, but it's not always what makes me feel the best. There is something to be said for the old WW way of having exchanges so you do get a well rounded balance. I just don't want to ever go back to having to track or to eat from food lists. Alana -- In IntuitiveEating_Support , Dayna P wrote: > > > Sounds like a yummy lesson to me. Guest guest
I think one of the cool things about IE is you can " think outside the box " . when I started IE a few weeks ago I realized pretty fast that I don't really enjoy most 'traditional' breakfast foods, and eating oatmeal for a year straight (d/t high cholesterol, and not really liking anything else) pretty much killed my enjoyment of oatmeal!! At the same time, I was having some serious ham sandwich cravings (I'm still legalizing bread!!) ... so... one morning I decided to d oa breakfast experiment and just have my ham sandwich for breakfast It was absolutely delicious AND it kept me satisfied all morning long ... I've been having a lot of breakfast sandwiches since then and loving it So I say, keep experimenting and don't worry if it's the " right " food for the time of day - you'll get some hits and some misses but it's all good hugs mikki .. Guest guest
I am a list maker, and I would make lists of things to eat or make, so I wouldn't have to stare into the fridge and cabinets, but just look at the list to see what looked good. I had list of breakfast things, and luch and dinner things. Then, the most recent IE book I read, the 7 secrets of slim people, talks about not catagorizing foods as " breakfast, " " lunch, " and " dinner, " and just thinking of what you want to eat. So I remade my list into just one continuous list of what I had in the house to eat, and I'd chose from that when I was hungry. I'd have french onion soup in the morning or pancakes in the evening. Doesn't matter. Your body wants what it wants, it doesn't know that American culture dictates that " we eat bacon and eggs for breakfast. " That might not be what your body wants in the morning. It's very liberating. Meg IE since Feb '08 > > > > . > > > > > > >
