Hi! I'm Kate. My eating and body issues have been an issue most of

my life. I struggled with eating disorders from jr. high school

through college -- but even after I got the behaviours under control,

the underlying distrust of myself with food and distrust/unhappiness

with my body lingered. I became a " healthy eater " but still fell

into the emotional unconscious eater during stressful times. My

adult weight has ranged from barely clinging to 90 lbs up to pushing

190 when pregnant. And last year I decided to get off the diet

roller coaster for good. Call it a diet, call it a " way of eating "

call it whatever - for me it become obsessive & just plain BAD! I

decided it was time to make peace with food before I passed this

unhealthy obsession on to my children.

I have read & re-read Intuitive Eating several times over the past

year - and several of Geneen Roth's books as well. I have two people

in my life who help keep me accountable (i.e. don't allow me to make

negative self-talk in their presence, don't talk about specific food

or exercise behaviours as " good " or " bad " , etc.) and one of them is

my husband:)

But...some days I still fall back into bad habits. I decided to

weigh myself the other day...bad idea! I had dropped a pants' size

recently and thought, " ooh, let's see how much I've lost! " Well, I

had gained three pounds and proceeded to let that number ruin my mood

the rest of the day. So...I finally bit the bullet and actually got

RID of the scale, and decided to check around for an IE support group.

Whew! That was longer than I intended!!

Thanks all -- looking forward to good advice and support:)

Kate
