Guest guest
So, I mentioned in a previous post that I continue to have automatic food thoughts sometimes around traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner times and when bored and anxious. I got up this morning and the question about what I should eat for breakfast came into my thoughts and I realized that I didn't have any hunger signals, so I let the thought go on its merry way. I can let go of the food thoughts and meal planning because I trust my body and its signals so much more now and I keep food that I like in the house. Three hours later, my hunger signals along with internal pressure to eat have come along. It's amazing sometimes the difference in time between a thought about food and my actual hunger signals. My hunger signals started about an hour ago, though the internal pressure/motivation to get food just started. I have the choice now to entertain the thought of food...maybe plan breakfast or to just let the thought go. This hunger that I'm feeling now is not a thought...it is a feeling and a knowing...so I'm going to go respond to it. Happy Nov 1st everyone! Guest guest
Latoya- That is so awesome that you are able to differentiate the difference between thoughts about food and actual biological hunger. Keep up the good work!!! God Bless, Dayna:) To: IntuitiveEating_Support From: latoyajw@...Date: Sat, 1 Nov 2008 14:19:48 +0000Subject: Automatic Food Thoughts... Guest guest
That is an amazing accomplishment. I think I have been slipping further and further into my old self and I really need to start listening to my body again. Guest guest
Lotoya, I like how you talk about recognizing thoughts. I have practiced the exercise of telling myself, "I am having the thought that I want chocolate." ...or..."I am having the thought that I am full." This separates the thought from ME, and it allows me to respond to the thought. Guest guest
Yes, being able to recognize and respond to food thoughts as well as other destructive non-food thoughts has been so important! I've found that my automatic food thoughts could trigger a desire to eat or even phantom hunger. My mental observer, which includes the IE food anthropologist, helps me in alot of ways.
