Guest guest
I saw a news clip on Yahoo's home page this morning - did anyone else see this? - about an interview with Oprah Winfrey where she " confesses " that she has gained 40 pounds back in the last two years and how embarrassed and ashamed she feels about it. I just feel so badly for her. It's hard enough to deal with the internal issues that impel us towards overeating, can you imagine having the whole world watching and making judgments about your struggles?? That must be just brutal. It makes me grateful that my journey towards true self-care and nourishment is largely a private one, with the exception of the support of those who can empathize with the road we travel. Guest guest
I haven't watched Oprah in years (don't have broadcast TV in this house), but one show I remember very fondly was where she had Plus-Sized models on! Not only did these 'larger' ladies look fabulous, they talked about how wonderful it felt to be ATTRACTIVE at the size they were. They also mentioned that they had one little problem - loosing weight because dropping from size 20ish to 14 or less put them out of work! Of course the audience thought that was a HOOT, but really it just reflected that these gals were IEing without knowing it ;-) Katcha IEing since March 2007 > > Maybe I am just in a mood, but when I saw the Oprah article on Yahoo, all I can feel is ticked off! There is more to that article than just feeling sorry for O. Isn't it a little ironic that she is ready to go back on a diet just in time for a New Year's Resolution? To me, that article was just a marketing ploy to get all the overweight people in the US to turn to her show and magazine to lose weight come Jan 1st. Ugh! I wish she would just encourage women to love themselves just the way they are instead of sending out a press release to say she is ashamed for weighing what she does. > > frustrated! > Bonnie
Guest guest
I actually logged onto the Oprah website and e-mailed the show about IE, stressing the fact that it seemed like such an " Oprah " thing to do! Maybe if we all get on her site and send e-mails about it, it may get featured sometime in the future. Who knows? Best to all~ Marla in Charlottesville, VA
Guest guest
I SO totally agree w/ you - She is ANTI anything that wont get her ratings In many ways her show picks at women about what is wrong with them or their lives which is NO better than the nasty headlines on all of the women's magazines at the grocery checkout (I used to merchandise - change out the magazines so I have seen MANY of them) in AZ > > > > I saw a news clip on Yahoo's home page this morning - did anyone else > > see this? - about an interview with Oprah Winfrey where she " confesses " > > that she has gained 40 pounds back in the last two years and how > > embarrassed and ashamed she feels about it. Guest guest
It seems that this topic (including emails) has been posted here before. I would like to see shows like Oprah present IE too. But its one of those " I do this for ME " things and that is so much more important than if 'everyone is doing it' don't ya think? Guest guest
Sounds like a prime example of Diet Mentality to me. Gotta feel sorry for anyone effected by it too. Hopefully everyone here is finding ways to eliminate that in their minds and lives. Guest guest
I so agree with you! I do feel it is a marketing ploy as Bob Greene's next book is brought out. And I agree, why can't she encourage women to love and accept themselves at any weight. It would be so great to get IE on her show. I know I just kind of rolled my eyes when I saw the article about her weight gain. I thought " here we go again! " . I've also noticed that TV has been bombarded with Slim For Life advertisements! I guess we IE'rs should brace ourselves as the New Years REsolution Diet Ads bombard the world! Guest guest
Another thing I've wondered is that if or when IE becomes more mainstream will it become the target of combines efforts to destroy it's credability? Look at the way competeing diets are so cut throat towards one another. I've even seen spokespeople for diets that very similar run each other down. If the diet industry ever sees IE as a threat I'm afraid IE will come under attack from a rather well organized and funded diet industry. I'm not saying we shouldn't spread the word, but when IE does become perceived as threat to to the big players we should be prepared for a lot of negativity to be thrown at us. Guest guest
There is nothing wrong with threats. Truth will withstand accusations. Guest guest
So right Arnie. And isn't it already difficult enough to fight the barrage of diet mentality without offering a 'target' for the nay sayers to blast at? IE works for me, that is all I need to know. It will for sure. However, at the moment IE still seems to have the label of " therapy " , something that is for struggling, very heavy emotional eaters with lots of emotinal issues and not for those who " want to lose a few pounds " . > Look at the way competeing diets are so cut throat > towards one another. (No, I won't state my own opinion on these approaches here.) > If the diet industry ever sees IE as a > threat I'm afraid IE will come under attack from a rather well > organized and funded diet industry. Not only that! What seems to be the way more unpleasant thought is that spokespeople of different IE approaches (and let's face it - there are more than one available) will probably attack each other. > I'm not saying we shouldn't spread the word, but when IE does become > perceived as threat to to the big players we should be prepared for a > lot of negativity to be thrown at us. Arnie, I think you're completely right here. I am glad that IE isn't THAT mainstream right now and I hope that I can get further in my journey and tehrefore more stable than I am now so I'm not that vulnerable anymore before IE gets the target of the diet industry. :-) Regards s.
