Has anyone dealt with this combo? I'm on large dose injectable MTX, and was

dx'd with pneumonia on Saturday. They gave me a z-PAC and inhaler, not doing

much good. Any advice appreciated.

Have you contacted your rheumy? If you haven't, you should, today.

Just my 2 cents.

I second that, .

Amber, you have to make sure you aren't dealing with MTX-induced

pneumonitis. If you haven't discussed this with your rheumatologist,

please do so immediately.

Hi Amber.

I have had pneumonia so many times in my life, I have actually lost count.  I

was diagnosed with RA 7 years ago, and have had pneumonia 3 times.  My PCP put

me on anti-biotics for 10 days, high doses of Prednisone.  I also had to use an

inhaler 4 times a day as well as a Nebulizer, 4 times a day.  I am pretty much

in bed for a few weeks each time I had the Pneumonia.  I also cough very heavy

24/7, which is very waring on me.  My Rheumy has me stop the MTX until the

Pneumonia is gone.  I usually take all my other RA meds.  All my RA meds. are

the maximum doses daily.  I did see a Plumologist for a year due to many

nodules on my lungs.  I had a CT scan, reg. X-rays, and a P.E.T. test.  He

wanted to make sure I did not have lung cancer, which I did not.  It took over

a year for my lungs to be clear, and I have yearly lung x-rays so he can keep

track of them.  At the same time I have had Pneumonia, I was also severly

anemic.  I did have blood

transfusions and took extra iron for a year.  So far so good.

The minute I feel something coming on, I see my PCP immediately.   I know my

immune system has been comprimised due to the RA.

I hope you feel better soon, and your meds. begin to heal you.  If you still

see no improvement by 5 days, perhaps you need to call your doctor and tell

him/her you are no better.  Sometimes they need to change your anti-biotic to

something stronger, and take for 10-14 days.

Take care and rest as much as you can.  I hope you begin to improve soon.

Hugs,

Barbara
