Guest guest
Prolotherapy Newsletter October 2nd, 2002 WHAT TYPE OF SUPPLEMENTS CAN YOU TAKE FOR PROLOTHERAPY? We are fielding hundreds of questions a week from people asking questions about Prolotherapy. One of the top subjects we are asked about is what type of nutritional supplements can be taken with treatments. There are many supplements that may help promote the healing cascade of Prolotherapy, one which is often over looked is the simple bromelain. Bromelains, in conjunction with Prolotherapy, are a very effective supplement for combating chronic pain. Bromelains come from the enzymes found naturally in pineapples, whether from the pineapple stem or juice. As a digestive aid , it is remarkably effective in breaking own proteins (so good that Bromelains can even be used as a meat tenderizer). What Bromelains do is break down fibrin, a blood protein that is involved in clotting and inflammation , and stop the production of kinins, inflammatory hormone compounds. This mean that bromelains may do the following: € Reduce effects of blunt injuries. Patients experience reduction in swelling, pain and tenderness. € Assist Rheumatoid arthritis patients with their pain € Help heal sports injuries, such as sprains, strains and muscle injuries, because of tissue repairing properties. This is why many of the supplements that we had custom formulated for use with our patients contain healthy amounts of bromelain. Some of these supplements include: Bromelain Max, which in addition to bromelain contains Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate. We also use a product called Rapid Response 1 to include bromelain, Turmeric Root Extract and Quercetin. These products DO NOT act as " anti-inflammatory medications " as many people think they do. They actually accelerate the inflammatory healing cascade, not STOP it as occurs when you take Advil, Motrin, Vioxx, and other " pain " meds. When it comes to assisting your Prolotherapy treatments in healing your chronic pain, high quality bromelain, combined with a unique blend of herbs and nutrients, should not be left out! *The FDA has not endorsed these statements. SPORTS HERNIA Many people are subjected to hernia surgeries for groin pain, which has nothing to do with a hernia! Patients come to us after a hernia surgery failed to cure " them of their groin pain. Remember, surgery generally does not cure injuries. To cure " means that you are stimulating the body to repair the area. There is only one method to do this for a long-standing injury: Prolotherapy. Most orthopedists do not routinely examine the pubic symphysis area because it means making the patients drop their drawers and palpating them in the groin area. The pubic symphysis is the front of the pelvis joint. It is connected together by a fibrocartilagenous disc, which is often injured. Injuries to this area are most often caused by slipping or falling, when the leg is suddenly pulled out from underneath. Swimmers who do the breast stroke are also vulnerable to injury in this area. Prolotherapy is extremely effective in strengthening the public symphysis and relieving chronic groin pain in this area. This is one of the most overlooked injuries and one of the most easily treated by Prolotherapy. These articles are drawn from the books of Ross Hauser, M.D., and n Hauser, M.S,R.D. ...
