Guest guest
My suggestion is o go back to a rheumy. Perhaps a different one. It does not seem as if you bonded with your first one. There are many new meds. You may get lucky. Good Luck. Raniolo From: psycho4chitown <psycho4chitown@...> Subject: [ ] Help if you can Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2009, 6:00 PM Hi all! Nice to be in a support group for RA finally!! i have a need for solicited advice. I saw a rheumy for many years. 2 yrs ago i decided to quite seeing a rheumy since I was either intolerant to the meds or they didn't work. He said if the med in one category didn't work then the rest in the same category wouldn't either. I tried the " newer " Humira, Kineret, remicade et al and of course the older ones. And we tried different combinations. Being that I like to breathe I couldn't take mthx because I am highly allergic to it. i am still taking prednisone and have ein small doses for most of 20 yrs. Fortunately it works to cover the pain but that is all. i can't do cortisone shots anymore because they send me spiraling into depression. I don't know what to do. Do I attempt to go back to the rheumy to see if there is any new med that are helpful and with less possible side effects? Or do I just continue on with my pain management dr? Thanks for your advice Psycho
Guest guest
My advice is to go back to the rheumy. There are new meds that you probably have not tried. Without a DMARD, you're at risk for joint damage, besides the pain. I have read articles that said that a person who had failed on one med in a category might get benefit from another one in the same category. So it wouldn't hurt to try. Good luck! Guest guest
PLUS++++ Keep in mind - if you don't like the responses or how you correspond with THIS doc -there are many, many more. Do NOT give up. Ever. I, myself, have almost given up and actually for 1 1/2 yrs - I did - I swore off all the medical community over the last doc I went to. But, I came to realize they all only " practice " medicine - no one doc knows it all. You have to have one that you connect with. One that you feel comfortable with. Good luck and please keep us posted. in SC > Hi all! > Nice to be in a support group for RA finally!! > i have a need for solicited advice. Guest guest
psycho, I'd think about setting up a round of consultations. Consider booking appts with 3 rheums. Bring copies of your chart and labs. Pitch them your history and see what they would recommend. When I was first dx, I saw 3 rheum groups and their approaches were surprisingly different. It was nice to weigh their opinions and pick the one that made sense to me. Welcome to the group! It's a great place, Kate F ________________________________ From: psycho4chitown <psycho4chitown@...> Sent: Tuesday, September 22, 2009 5:00:59 PM Subject: [ ] Help if you can Hi all!
