Christy,

Should I keep the box, or throw it away? Close your eyes, take some

deep breaths, get calm -- ask yourself that question a few times and

get a sense into your own inner guidance. You know what you can handle

and what you can't at this point.

Legalizing foods is a scary and transformational process. Working with

this cereal could be a great way to learn more about yourself and what

works for you, if you're ready. I might wait until I got hungry (not

starving) again and purposefully take a bowl of that cereal and eat it

mindfully...smell it, taste it, chew it...and see if you really like

it. See if you can actually feel satisfied or full eating with that

cereal...it might be an air food that you can never truly get

satisfied off of. I've had to add banana, dried fruit, or nuts to many

of my morning cereals in order to feel satisfied or I want to keep

eating it.

Are you moving regularly? Exercise or movement is a great way to help

manage the emotions that your experiencing right now.

The binge today helped you see and feel more clearly where you are

with this particular " forbidden " food. Use your experience today to

help determine your next step...this experience can work to your benefit.

Christy, your cereal eating is part of legalizing of 'forbidden

foods'. Almost every book I've read on non-dieting talks about eating

MORE of these foods when you first allow yourself them. Its such a

usual thing to do. And rest assured that most people do get over it

sooner or later. The trick is to tell yourself that 1) its just a FOOD

and 2) you can eat it anytime you are hungry. That is a big step all

in itself. If you can, see if you can manage a little bit of 'mindful'

eating of this food too. Tasting it as you eat it, savoring the flavor

and texture plus feeling how your body responds to it too. Feeling

over full is FEEDBACK - your body going 'ugh! that was to much' AND

figuring out if the 'much' was amount or food type. Don't sweat it if

you can't do all this at first. Baby steps get ya there too :)

Thank you so much for your help, everyone :) I was able to get over

the incident by learning from it -- your comments were so encouraging. :)

Keep the box! In fact, go out and buy three more! Trust me, after a couple of days eating nothing but cereal, you'll be "over it."

I agree I had to do this with Cheesies. I'd buy a bag and once it

was gone I kept replacing the bag of Cheesies until it was really

legalized and I could have them around no problem. I've also had to

do this with chips as I use chips when I'm angry - crunchy and

salty. I can have chips around no problem now, however, I do

occasionally use them and once I realize this it is getting easier to

stop. Time, patience and not beating yourself up helps.
