Guest guest
Hi Rick, Since you were dx with hep c have you been taking antidepressants? The reason I ask is because some antidepressants can cause you to gain weight. My doctor has been trying me out on a few and none of them agree with me, but when I asked about Paxil he said I would kill him if he put me on Paxil because it makes you hungry and gain weight. So anyway, if you started taking antidepressants after your dx, that could be the reason for the weight gain. Chris > Ok, I have a question. Let me start from the beginning. Guest guest
Angie, that is some of the wonderful effects of Prednisone. I was on the med, and weaned myself off it. It caused me terible headaches, insomnia, and weight gain. Some benefit a great deal from the drug. I just didn't won't all those side effects. How much Prednisone are you on? Guest guest
I must be the odd one here. I have been on 5mg/day of Prednisone for 3 years and I weigh less now than when I first started taking it. My biggest side affect is my skin is like tissue paper and every little bump either bleeds or ends up with massive bruising. As much as I would like to be off it, it does help me. Guest guest
I managed to not gain weight while on prednisone by eating as few carbs as I could manage. I have diabetes and was already limiting carbs, but had to limit them even more. The prednisone seemed to know when I ate carbs, LOL, and my blood glucose would go up more than usual. So limiting the white carbs (potatoes, bread, pasta, etc.) might be worth a try. As far as sleep goes, I also have insomnia. Many nights I'm still lying there awake at three o'clock. If you discover the secret, let me know, too. Sue On Thursday, January 13, 2005, at 05:34 AM, along302003 wrote: > > Has any one else had any wieght gain while they were on medicine. Guest guest
Hi and Debra, This was brought up before, and I have found it easier to pack on the pounds since beginning Enbrel, also. However, I firmly believe that it is the result of my being able to sleep more soundly, and because I have much less pain (whether sleeping or not). Less pain results in less adrenal gland action - which leads to lower heart-rate, slower respiration, and better digestion. Less pain also leads to clearer thinking which means less frustration and a generally improved emotional state. All of these things mean that my body is operating more efficiently and; therefore, requires less energy. So, for me, I need fewer calories, even though I am able to do more things. I have to eat less with Enbrel, but I don't blame the Enbrel - I look at it as a benefit. P.S. I've been to Poulsbo a few times, and found it very nice - even with the 10,000 RVs. > This is in response to Debra's question about weight gain. I have certainly packed on the pounds...and then some!! I do not take Methotrexate, but have been on Enbrel for several years now. I eat too much, always have, but this weight gain is not just from that, I am sure. No one has ever said Enbrel made you gain weight, but I sure think so! in Poulsbo,Wa. > > From: " Debra " <lildebfin@a...> > Subject: Weight Gain > > >

Guest guest
Few seem to realise the increased metabolic demands on the body imposed by a hyperproliferative or degenerative disease. If you have psoriasis on 50% of your body surface area then your body might be making as many skin cells as 4 normal people. The tearing down and rebuilding of tissue that takes place in degenerative arthritis such as RA or PA can also consume a lot of calories, vitamins and minerals. Also with increased bloodflow close to the surface, as may be evidenced by redness and swelling, you will loose more body heat which must be made up for by burning calories which is of particular importance this time of year. So if you significantly reduce the symptoms of P and/or PA you can expect to reduce caloric intake or gain weight. Orin In a message dated 12/18/2005 7:37:49 P.M. Guest guest
Hi Orin, Does that mean that I can be in pain, but be thin and look great!! Only kidding of course, But I remind myself every time I moan about hating to go to the gym and sweat, that I am very lucky that I'm able to and it wasn't all that long ago I couldn't. Guest guest
- your humor is not far off the mark. Although I was only diagnosed this summer, the flare started in the spring slowly, and I lost 20 lbs over the next 3 months. Once I was on Plaquenil 5 weeks my apetite started coming back with a vengence. However even eating more I've barely gained 5 lbs back. What Orin mentioned is right on - I fully expect when I have very good pain control that the weight will start going up again and I'll have to start watching what I eat more. - > > Hi Orin, > Does that mean that I can be in pain, but be thin and look great!! > > Only kidding of course, But I remind myself every time I moan about > hating to go to the gym and sweat, that I am very lucky that I'm able > to and it wasn't all that long ago I couldn't. > > > Stay Well, > >
Guest guest
Orin, I had not thought of it that way....food for thought! I have good pain control right now and I was overweight before I was diagnosed...though the PA had been coming on for years before that and no one could diagnose me. I never ever lose my appetite..even when I have a stomach virus I still have an appetite! I am trying to cut way back on eating and watching what types of foods I eat because my blood sugar is out of control right now and hopefully I will lose some weight. I was put on Avandamet for the diabetes and have seen over on the diabetes forum that most people or a lot of them anyway lose weight on that drug. Guess I will find out! It gives me diarrhea though! Guest guest
I've had similar issues. I've also had a recent round of antibiotics and it has totally annihilated me. I've never been so exhausted and unwell. I am fighting candida worse than ever now, it's a battle bigtime. The weight loss side of it, is probably long term loss of appetite and the stomach shrinks and then you just cannot sustain an appetite from then on, plus not absorbing nutrients due to yeast overgrowth robbing you of need nutrition to gain normal weight and a healthy appetite. The only thing I could do really was eat things like meat (with the fat on), eggs, and using fats like butter, olive oil, coconut oil and being pretty darned liberal with it all. And of course having vegets too, but mainly I would make sure I was having heaps of protein and fats. I'm still slender, but it's the only way to keep anything on me at all. Thinking I'll put on weight if I go and eat sugars etc, it should occur (because it used to occur when I had toruble LOSING weight) but not it's the oppsosite. I cheat now and I end up losing more in the long run. If you keep on the candida diet and eats these good fats and proteins etc, and stay off the sugars, yeasts, gluten grains, fruits, milk etc, your body can begin to absorb more nutrients and you can start to heal and gain some weight and a more healthy appetite. Just as someone who is overweight can begin to lose weight for the same reasons. > i recently encountered candida overgrowth due to over use of > antibiotics. Guest guest
Hi there, the idea of consuming any of those things (ice cream, chocolate etc) is disastrous for anybody suffering with yeast overgrowth (especially after a round of antibiotics). Thsi person who has been made ill after them, has lost wight and their appetite, will continue to spiral down if they do not address the overgrown yeast from the antibiotics. The same thing has happened to me. Any sugar eating tips me over the edge to the point I am extremely ill for a long time after it (week or more). If anything, I end up having to start from scratch, end up losing even more weight, and can hardly function. A person has got to keep the diet and battle the die off out so they can get on top of the yeast. Which will allow them to eventually heal and absorb nutrietns, then the weight will go back on. it will not go back on by eating ice cream, chocolate etc, they will worsen their existing condition and remain ill and never get on top of the what the antibiotics have caused. Don't take offense, I'm just responding because a recent round of antibiotics has just about finished me and sugar is a total disaster to me now. > You can get some weight supplements at the gmc store. Welcome to our group my friend. ==>When your body is riddled with candida weight is the least of your problems, and it will normalize as you progress on my candida program. First concentrate on getting the nutrients your body needs. I recommend you start with Bee's Raw Egg Drink - see our Recipe Folder (in the files on the left menu) under Drinks & Teas. It is important that you read my main article which was sent to you when you joined " How to Successfully Overcome Candida " - it is also in our Files in the 1st folder. Also see the other article in that Folder " Candida, How to Get Started " . ==>At one point during my candida program I was losing 3 lbs per day. A man could wrap his fingers around my thigh. But I persisted on the program and my weight normalized to where it should be. You cannot increase your weight effectively until you get rid of the candida overgrowth because any foods that put on weight also feed the candida. We are here to help and support your, so please read the article thoroughly first and then get back to us. The best in health, Bee >

Guest guest
Hi there, you're welcome. I reckon the diet alone is the key thing to work out. EVerything else to my mind is secondary. I have found this out more and more as time has gone on. With this recent round of antibiotics, I just have no words really for what it's done and i was only on them for one week. Not a lot I can do but get back on track with the diet and make sure I simply don't cheat. Cheating is a disaster for me. I have to be moderate with exercise, because I have a permanent condition that causes me to get very ill from exercise and I suffer for a long time after it. The most I manage is walking on a treadmill (not using an incline, I'm too sick for htat, wish I could, it's extremely beneficial), and walking moderately for about 20 minutes or so. Half an hour is good, but I'm too ill right now to do that. Aside from that? If I'm able to, I try and do some basic muscle strengthening exercises for my arms, stomach and backside. Nothing too much, just a little. I don't use weights, I just do them from a dressing table and the floor, using my own body really. That's all I do. Sometimes I use a rebounder too. They are great to use, but I have to watch myself at the moment, I am just exhausted. Bee has everything listed on her links and files that will help you with the diet and also what supplements you can take too to aid you and many other issues. I would not use antifungals at this stage. For me I don't want to use them at all, but may have to sometime. They can release too many toxins at once from yeast and make a person very sick. Best to use diet until you are stronger. Just my opinion. The symptoms you're getting sound a lot like die off to me. It's not nice, but if you can stick with the programme, you should start to notice improvements down the track. You can also take hot baths and use epsom salts (this can help sweat and help with toxins via the pores of the skin). I also just take thing slike vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, magesium, purified fish oil and basically the diet and the exercise and that's it. I can only hope I will improve, I never want to take antibiotics again. I bet you feel the same way. > I thank you that truly helps.. It is such a relief to hear this.. I was surprised there was somone on a candida support group touting ice cream and chocolate to someone and I thought they were new and didn't know what this was all about, or doing it deliberately. My issue as a raw foodist was similair as soon as i increased the fats in my diet.. any insights would be helpful. ==>Some people do put on weight eating high amounts of butter, particularly when it is pasteurized. Coconut oil does not cause anyone to put on weight however. You should be having a good balance of fats - butter, coconut oil, lard, etc. - they each provide different health benefits. Also it is important you are taking cod liver oil for omega 3, and vitamins A & D, as well as vitamin E - all of the fats and oil vitamins work together so leaving any out of the diet can caused imbalances. And elimination of bad fats and oils is equally important. Bee
