Guest guest
I think there's still some progress because you realize that you were eating the m & m's unconsiously. Being aware of it is the first step of dealing with it! It also sounds like you've made alot of progress towards eating when you're hungry rather than because it's time to eat or there is food around. IE is a process that takes time! Be gently and kind to yourself. I've been IE since Aug 08 and I've made some great strides. I can recognize when I'm hungry, and can almost always recognize when I'm full (not stuffed, just not hungry anymore). I have legalized alot of foods. But, occassionally, I still binge. I'm completely aware I"m doing it, but sometimes I do it anyways. I do notice that I eat much less during a binge - I find it hard to eat past a certain full point! I can hear my body saying "no more please". Keep on going!! I think you are doing great. Kim IE since Aug 08 Subject: ugh.To: IntuitiveEating_Support Date: Thursday, October 9, 2008, 3:51 PM so i've been practicing IE for about a week now and i've been feeling SO much better... i thought i was really starting to get in-tune with my body. i'm in college, so my eating patterns tend to be structured around when i have classes/work but i was surprised how often i just plowed through food just.. because. just because it was there and it was 'time' to eat. granted i only ate the foods i was 'allowed' to eat (i.e. salads and other low calorie foods) but then i'd binge on cereal and chocolate regularly (hence the 10 pounds i'm struggling with). so today for lunch i came back and had a piece of whole wheat bread with PB and honey (yum!) and an apple-and i felt satisfied. until i sat down at my computer and started gobbling at M & Ms (the almond kind haha). at first it was consciously, but then i just started plowing through them just because!!! it was so frustrating, especially because i knew i was hurting myself as it was happening. i feel like i've taken a huge step back and its really frustrating
Guest guest
Thanks, it's hard (as I'm sure you know) to change the " rules and regulations " you've ingrained in your brain for years. And what you said is exactly true: I probably would have eaten more of the m & ms had I not been so in tune to my body's " fullness factor " . While it was definitely still a binge, it was probably not as bad as other binges I've had. Thanks for your support, it makes the process easier knowing people are going through what I'm going through!!
Guest guest
but it's not a step back , the awareness you are developing of what you are doing and why is a step FORWARD! hugs Mikki so i've been practicing IE for about a week now and i've been feeling SO much better... i thought i was really starting to get in-tune with my body. i'm in college, so my eating patterns tend to be structured around when i have classes/work but i was surprised how often i just plowed through food just.. because. just because it was there and it was 'time' to eat. granted i only ate the foods i was 'allowed' to eat (i.e. salads and other low calorie foods) but then i'd binge on cereal and chocolate regularly (hence the 10 pounds i'm struggling with). so today for lunch i came back and had a piece of whole wheat bread with PB and honey (yum!) and an apple-and i felt satisfied. until i sat down at my computer and started gobbling at M & Ms (the almond kind haha). at first it was consciously, but then i just started plowing through them just because!!! it was so frustrating, especially because i knew i was hurting myself as it was happening. i feel like i've taken a huge step back and its really frustrating
