Hi,

My son started climbing out of his crib at 9 months (!!) We got a crib tent

which worked great. We transitioned him into a regular bed when he was almost

4. We took the crib out of the room and put the made up bed in there and lots

of pillows on the bed and floor. Nothing else was or at this point still is in

the room except the bed b/c he will take everything out of the drawers, pull the

drawers out, etc. I put some books and small puzzles in the room for him to

play with as he winds down. He " got " it pretty quickly and now sleeps in the

bed every night. We have a lock on the outside of his bedroom door so he is

safe and cannot leave the room during the night (he would wander and roam, also

if given the chance). We observed him at the beginning through a crack the

Jack/Jill bathroom door (which was also kept locked at all times so he can't get

in the bathroom) to make sure he was ok. A friend installed a nanny cam so she

could make sure her son

was ok during the transition. But once we left him in the empty room by

himself he played for a few minutes and then climbed into the bed and went right

to sleep. In the mornings now he plays w/the books, puzzles until we go get

him. No crying at night or in the morning and I think he enjoys the " downtime "

by himself for a few minutes.

Good luck:)

One more thing we did is put a CD player out of his reach and play

soft bedtime lullabies, which helps to relax him. Plus then the

room isn't totally quiet after we leave, and it gives him something

else to focus on.
