Guest guest
Since there were at least two who did not receive this I will forward it on. I apologize if it is a duplicate. We submitted your question to our medical etymologist and he responded as follows: " The intervertebral foramina (singular, intervertebral foramen) are apertures between adjacent vertebrae for the passage of spinal nerves. They are also called neural foramina (singular, neural foramen). The ubiquitous nonword neuroforamen (plural, neuroforamina) was created by healthcare workers who hear the phrase " neural foramen " that way because Americans characteristically swallow the L sound in such a setting. " Though " neuroforamen " is commonly used, it is not correct. We will update our wordbooks to reflect the correct spelling of " neural foramen. " We at Lippincott and Wilkins strive to provide the best medical references available and it is very helpful when our customers assist us. Keep talking and we'll keep listening! Also, for future reference, if you want a more rapid response, please submit your question to the Ask Dr. Stedman website, not to the " askdrstedman@... " e-mail address. The Ask Dr. Stedman e-mail address is the e-mail address we use to clarify ADS questions and it does not send questions to the ask dr stedman queue on our website. ******************** R. Kairis Associate Managing Editor Stedmans.com The Best Words in Medicine Neuroforamen A major discussion brewed over the term neuroforamen and neural foramen. Your orthopedic book lists neuroforamen as correct but we have other references and experienced MTs who say it is neural foramen. Please let us know. Aliceanne Sawyer aasawyer@... Guest guest
The typos were because I was standing along side the keyboard in a corner being hit by my lamp and squeezed by my bookcase. I had put my laundry on my typing chair as I was about to hit the sack after a very painful back day. Must be the rain and sleet we expect tomorrow. Two days ago, or was it yesterday, my new car registered the outside temp to be 71...almost a hot house. Did not wear a coat. Today I wore a coat and gloves and muff. Oh well. Did I move to Colorago and not know it?
