Guest guest
My son is 6 years old and has the same. I understand your fears of labeling him, that was our greatest fear. I do not know of a pre-school in Palm Beach but I can tell you there is an excellent school in Broward county. It is a public school for children with disabilities and my son did not talk at all until that school and even though I was very fearful of labeling him, it was the best choice we made sending him here. They have the early steps Autism program so it is only until they reach regular public school age. He made huge improvements and now along with his speech therapy for the last year, he is now communicating in small sentences and huge comprehenstion. He is not in the school now but they are the reason for his accomplishments and foundations of speech and comprehension. If you want further information you can email me privately. I would love to discuss with you also what kind of speech and pragmatic therapy you are giving your son. My son is suppossed to started social and pragmatic this friday so I am nervous that this is the right way to go for him. markn2004@... New To Group and Would love some Help! Hello! Our 4 year old has just been diagnosed with PDD Nos along with gifted intellegence. He has been in pragmatic speech therapy for 3 months and has made major strides in that area. We are looking for a private preschool in Palm Beach County that would be a good placement for him for this PreK year.He has been in a couple of traditional preschools that did not work out because of his need for social skills management. Both my husband and I happen to be behavioral therapists in private practice, and we are together on the fact that we want to wait this year out, give him intensive work, before we label him with an IEP. If after work, he needs that, then that is what we will do. If anyone knows of a private preschool we would be so greatful.W edid look into the Butterflyeffects program at the Jewish Community Center but it is almost $3000 a month. Somewhat out of our reach...Thank so much in advance!!!
Guest guest
A friend started her child at Claremont Montessori for first grade, and raved about how they worked with him. He wasn't a child that had anger management problems, but didn't really socialize well. Children's House Pre-K might be an option if you speak with the director. (Maybe if you ask about 1/2 days for the first few weeks it would be acceptable.) - Phone:(561)391-0074.Subject: New To Group and Would love some Help! To: sList Date: Monday, June 23, 2008, 7:25 AM Hello! Guest guest
We are looking for a private preschool in Palm Beach County that would be a good placement for him for this PreK year. A place to start might be the McKay list of schools. For Palm Beach there about 50 of them. http://www.floridaschoolchoice.org/information/mckay/ If the link doesn't work do a search for " McKay Florida Choice " and go to private schools, they are sorted by county. Not all will be appropriate but you can sometimes tell from the name of a school if the specialize or not and the list will link you to the schools website. For instance " The Open Doorway " school's website says: " Educating Children With Special Needs " I have no experience with this school and have never heard of them but I quickly found this example. Hope you find this helpful Steve
