Guest guest
Hello Cyndi. I had already read the "funding" hot link you gave. Certainly it is praiseworthy that LDN advocates wish to raise pilot funds. I have no objection to this I doubt there is much serious debate about safety of LDN. The debate seems to be about what the FDA calls "efficacy" for various conditions. Probably that is where the research grant applications should put their focus, be the subjects humans or mice.. I sensed a desire among some Conference attendees to access "mainstream" research funding for efficacy studies. There are few granting sources more "mainstream" than NIH. In my modest email contributions I was just trying to portray a realistic picture that will enhance chances of actually getting an NIH grant. Whether or not the grant applicant has pilot funds from LDNers is probably immaterial to ultimate approval.. But such monies could help pay administrative expenses the scientist would have in drafting his/her application. Perhaps LDNers interested in more research funding should direct letters and petitions to leading neurological and immunological researchers, and "convert" one of them to be interested in "the cause". Then ask them to have their Fellows apply for some NIH grants to study LDN. Just a thought.
Guest guest
I do a lot of work in the animal world and i've been part of a group that funds K9 cancer research though the Animal Foundation. we actually get a list of the studies and then decide where the money would go-we do online auctions and stuff-we have raised almost 20,000 for this cause and one of the reasons is we know where the money goes. is there anyplace like that in the human world-like rent-a-researchercyndiOn May 3, 2006, at 7:19 PM, raineyn@... wrote: Hello Cyndi. Guest guest
Hi & everyone, This is SammyJo, one of the organizers of the LDN Research Fund started during the 1st conference. So far we are at $4,650 of our $20,000 goal, which I keep updated at http://LDNers.org This total will go up shortly from the 2nd LDN conference fees. The original plan was to quickly raise the $20k and approach the academic researchers to start basic science, then apply for a larger gov't grant, as you are suggesting. We may be at the $20k goal or beyond after the Sept fund raiser planned in California, so I would encourage anyone with connections to the academic research world to initiate dialogue now. Or, if you could provide a list of likely targets, I would be happy to write to them. Perhaps we could craft a letter with your input that would posit the proposal in the proper scientific language. Your input and suggestions are greatly appreciated. SJ
