Guest guest
Hello. Just joined the list. I've not been diagnosed with type 2 yet but am about 30 pounds overweight, or more 6' and 210 pounds. I have a question. I've been a long time drinker - for about 35 years and probably have some liver disease. Recently I developed an intense generalized ITCH, and read that it could be a sign of diabetes, liver or kidney disease. I had a scan of my kidneys two years ago and they said they were fine, along with blood tests every 6 months or so which are normal re the kidneys. I'm wonder if when any of you have your blood glucose high - do you itch? My itch is way down now and disappeared totally when I did 3 miles on my treadmill after not eating anything for the day. It stayed down since then until I missed one day on the treadmill and a little itch came back. Could high blood sugar cause me to itch or is there anything else diabetic connected that could. I've rarely had itching before now. Thanks much Hansen
Guest guest
Hi - welcome to the list. The best way to find out the truth is get to your doctor and have a blood glucose test and hemoglobin tests. I think the itching may be involved with complications of diabetes - I had it sometimes but had tingling in my arms and legs, numbness in one leg, and a lot of other stuff going on, including losing weight for no good reason. There are a lot of things that can be symptoms or effects of diabetes, or about a gazillion other things. That's why a doctor is a better diagnostician than email folks who can't see you or evaluate your condition. Good Luck. Carol

There is an expression: when you hear hoofbeats, think horse, not zebra. Generalized itching is a typical sign of an ailing liver. Do you have flu-like symptoms? Are there signs of jaundice? (Do your eyes have a yellow cast, etc.) Do you notice extra weight in your face and your abdomen, like there's a fluid accumulation? One liver tonic: folate daily (1 gram, I think), along with 4-6 brewers yeast tablets. Milk thistle is also supposed to be good. Livers can heal if they haven't reached the stage of cirrhosis.
