Guest guest
Hi Everyone, As Katcha posted earlier today, we are dealing with a Grouply problem. A member, who may not even be aware that this is a problem (please do not give her a hard time as this could be a mistake, or Grouply's doing) sent Grouply invitations to several members of this group. I am very sorry for this and it is my personal advice that if you received one, delete it. DO NOT sign up for Grouply. Of course, you can do what you want, but Grouply members will no longer be able to read our group posts from Grouply accounts. Grouply seems innocent enough, but there has been an ongoing issue with this service for months with many Yahoo groups, and they are simply breaking Yahoo's privacy rules for groups. I do not want any member of this group to have their privacy invaded, it will not be tolerated. Since this was brought to my attention, I have opted our group out of Grouply. This means that no one with a Grouply address will be able to access the group and Grouply members will no longer see the posts from this group in their Grouply account. What happens when people join Grouply is that all their Yahoo groups that have not opted out and the members of that group will show up, not to mention all our private posts. This gives email harvesters free access to emails. It is absolutely a violation of privacy and I can only hope that Grouply will be shut down at some point, but as far as I know, Yahoo hasn't bothered to do anything about this. It's really ridiculous that group owners must opt-out of something they never opted in to but this is the case. Anyone from now own that tries to join our group with a Grouply email address will be removed immediately. In addition, all posts from our groups should be gone as well as the member listings so this group can remain a safe, private, and anonymous group where we all can feel comfortable sharing. It's taken me a couple days to figure out how to deal with this. If any of you have any questions or concerns, please contact me off list. I believe we are now safe, please delete any Grouply invite you may have received. And I see there has been a decrease in discussion here, so if it is because of this issue, rest assured you can post and know you are in a safe place.
