Guest guest
Hi, Kathy. I take 2 prenantal vitamins (1 daily dose) from GNC along with vitamin E, C, iron (the kind that we can absorb), sublingual B12, and Viactiv calcium chews. My doctor says it's fine. Vitamins C & E help to prevent Toxemia and PreEclampsia. I am 20 months post op, and, I have 5 feet intestines bypassed in a RNY. No, before pregnancy, I was only taking one multivitamin a day. And, my vitamin levels were fine. My surgeon checks them every 3 months. When I wanted to get pregnant, with the advice of my OB and surgeon, I changed my one multivitamin to one one pre-natal. I take a prescription pre-natal called Materna 55. I have been taking the pre-natals since October now and my levels are still fine. In addition to the pre-natal, I take B12 3 times a week, and B100 complex, C 1000mg, E 400iu, Calcium 1500mg daily. So far all is good. When I have my quarterly bloods done, I have no irregular levels that would indicate toxic amounts of any vitamin. I guess this is what you are asking. On the down side, I was put on insulin today. I am very, very scared and depressed. I had the surgery to avoid gestational diabetes only to have it still, and, it is not diet related, since the food diary I showed the nurse was fine, not too many carbs. I sobbed for a half hour in her office. But, I will get by with this. Rita

Guest guest
hi kathy i am 17 weeks. i have been taking just a pre natal vit since the end of december. i was really bad about taking my chewables before that. at my appt the end of feb they tested all of my vitamin levels at that time. i think they were concerned more about my levels being low. everything was fine except my b12, d, and e levels were low. my zinc was high but i was taking tablets so my hair wouldnt fall out so fast. im not sure how much i bypassed but my surgery records indicate a very, very long limb. good luck and take care of the little ones. julie Vitamins while pregnant Hi all, just curious to see if any of you that have had babies or are now preg, after gastric bypass had OB's that were concerned about you getting TOO much Vitamins? My normal vitamin intake after gastric bypass is supposed to be 3 multi's a day. I had 6ft of intestines bypassed. My OB's concern is that I may be getting too much of the Fat soluable vitamin, such as A, too much of it causes birth defects......... Will be having my Vit. levels done just to see how they are, he said its hard knowing how much I'm absorbing, which does make sense. Also, he wanted me to try and find a multi vit that has less than 5000 units of A in it...... can't seem to find one! So for now, I'm taking 1 prenatal, and every other day I rotate, between 1 and 2 multi-vits. Any suggestions?
