Guest guest
Vision therapy is usually for children a little older. When they are young an optometrist might put prism glasses on the child to help with depth perception. This is especially important for a child who is a climber. Vision therapy is essential in helping to build a foundation for reading for a child with autism due to the developmental vision issues as part of the sensory dysfunction of the disorder. Vision is the synchronization of muscle movement and motor skill ability. Because children with autism have Hypertonia, which is low muscle tone in the upper part of the body fine motor skills, then motor skill movement, planning and execution becomes difficult. For example, most parents would be amazed at how much your child does not look at what he is doing. The fundamentals to reading and writing is being able to look and see which requires muscle tone - if you have peripheral vision that becomes a monumental task. Or your child might have difficulty holding a pencil to write - that requires hand/eye coordination. Part of vision training is working on being able to track objects, balancing...all about training the eyes to move in time and space. This give a foundation to help a child be able to do everyday normal functions a neurotypical child does naturally. Once your child acquires the skills to read and to write, then a foundation is built to begin to be able to tackle reading comprehension which is an auditory processing issue. Guest guest
Vision therapy helps with whatever specific area your child needs therapy for.
