I've been on Imuron and asacol for about a year now (and SCD). Things

are good -not perfect - but I just started really talking to my doctor

about weening off imuron- he said he would not consider it for another

5 years... I have a real hard time with that -I was think more along

the lines of 2 years. I'm going to find and talk to a doctor who is

more of an advocate of SCD rather than just a supporter... but in the

mean time I'm wondering if anyone has ever gotten off Imuron- and if

so how that went.

Many thanks in advance,

susan

Hi ,It's well-within your patient rights to get a second opinion (re: Imuran) from another doctor, even if you choose to stay with your current GI Specialist. In other words, you don't have to wait until you find a pro-SCD GI Doc. That said, I can understand the desire to hear from a doctor who supports dietary treatment measures. That way you could hear from an MD who supports the things you're doing to take care of your health. It's very discouraging, in my opinion, to deal with doctors who dismiss the self-care measures we, as patients, implement for ourselves. Congrats on your 1-year SCD anniversary :)Sorry I can't offer more perspective on the actual drug.Nina in MA----- Original Message ----

My very first post here. I've been on imuran for about 4 months, and

asacol for almost 2 years, and am on a morning hydrocortizone enema

and an evening mesalamine enema. I'm just starting the SCD, though

I've know about it for almost 2 years. I'm hoping that perhaps I can

be off most of my drugs in a year.

Why did your doc say 5 years? My doc did say that it's a long term

med, but I thought that meant I could be on it a long time without the

side effects of prednisone, which is not meant to be a long term med.

I'm hopful the SCD will be as beneficial for me as it has been for

many others I've read about. I want to be med free.
