Today I was thinking something along these same lines and realized that if we begin to think that IE HAS to be one way, then it again becomes another " diet " . In reality, your IE needs to be what works for you to eat normally, and my IE might look completely different. Does that make sense? I think by recognizing what you need to do to nurture yourself, you ARE practicing IE. I am in this same phase right now. Beginning to try do what is loving for ME. dawn
Guest guest
, I believe that what you have discovered for yourself is definitely in the spirit of IE. Craving is only one of the many indicators of our overall intuitive sense. Like you stated, some part of you just "knows" that your body needs some more whole foods. That knowing is another aspect of your intuition. I also loved what you said about wanting to wait until the craving comes for something like ice cream...that is so essential! If you don't crave or want a certain food and you're just eating it because it was a forbidden food or as some form of rebellion, then I think it's more difficult to recognize feelings of satisfaction/fullness...because eating that particular food is not actually satisfying a need that you have right now. I didn't go through a food junk fest phase when I started IE. As I craved/wanted a food that I overate like pudding, I would buy it and work on legalizing it then. I think it would be a real challenge to try to legalize many foods at one time when you're starting IE. I've been having similar thoughts about craving. Recently, I started working full-time again and I have regular income. So I thought to myself, I "should" go out to dinner to celebrate. First of all, I've been attempting to find pleasure and celebrate in new ways without using food and secondly, I don't have any real craving or desire to eat out right now. I'd much rather wait for a craving/want for a certain restaurant dish that I love to arise...so that I can truly savour the food when I eat it versus going out to dinner because it's a past pattern of mine to celebrate using food. Waiting for a craving/want for a certain food to arise was sort of scary for me in the beginning of IE because I thought that I might never want a certain food again. Though having a craving, again, is only one indicator I use for what I eat. For example, I bought some jelly belly candies yesterday...I wasn't craving them, I didn't particurlarly want them...I walked past them on the way to the register...was feeling a bit hungry...so I was like hey...I like how jelly bellies taste...so I can go for a some jelly bellies. I'm still learning though...I ate half of the jelly bellies before dinner, ate dinner, polished off the rest of the small bag after my meal, recognized that I was still feeling antsy for more food probably because the jelly bellies were way too much pure sugar and pushed me off balance. So, incorporating some loving nutrition in your life sounds like a great next step to me.
