Guest guest
Hi I have all girls, But I have a friend that had a little boy, and she put Cheerios in the toilet, and let him aim them....It made going in the potty Fun It worked for her.I thought I would tell you all about this.. - Alisha's mom potty training Hi Everyone I no this has been discussed before but I wondered If anyone had any new ideas.I started potty training Christian in jan 1999 and from the beginning if I asked him to go to the toilet he would 'perform'.Well a year later we have not got very far,He rarely has accidents ,but left to himself he would wet himself.I feel I have tried everything-sticker charts, treats, special pants etc.I have now got to the stage where I don't no what to do next.Unlike his brothers and sister I can not seem to get through to Christian,I don't no if its the RSS,how he has been brought up or if he would have been the same anyway.I started training his younger brother 3 days ago and he is already virtually independent, just telling him that this is what 'big boys' do is enough. It is so frustating because I no that it is only an attitude problem.Oh and he also waits for his nappy[sorry diaper] to do his poo.He has been at pre school and now nursery for a year and he manages fine[He doesn't need to go in 2 1/2 hours]Has anyone had this problem?Had problems rationalising with a seemingly bright child?Do any of your chidren seem like they are from another planet?I could go on forever!!! Guest guest
I can tell you from trying to potty training to Ian, IT WAS HORRIBLE!! That child would not go to the bathroom no matter what!! He is five and we still have to remind him in there for BM's!! It's not the fact that he doesn't know, because he can't hide it well and would go in a corner and squat from the time he could walk, so we knew right away what he was up to. We would put him on the toilet when that was going on. I can only hope that anyone has better luck than I did with Ian. To this day, he still waits until the very last minute to have BM's and then he might not even tell you he has gone. We have had this " potty " talk before and I have to say, he has very large BM's. I think it is that he just doesn't want to stop what he is doing to go to the bathroom. He has gotten so much better about not waiting now that he is older and we can take things away from him that he really likes-TV, computer, not going outside, not riding his bike, etc.. when we know that he is deliberately not going and not having an accident. When he was younger, it was more difficult. To this day, he still wets the bed at night. My mother in law has told me my husband AND his younger brother were betwetters until an older age, but I wonder if it's more due to the size of their bladders?? Ian is eating and drinking more and maybe the small size of his bladder just can't handle it. I don't know, but I tried all kinds of things. Putting him on the big potty, putting him on a small potty chair, giving him books to read and giving him something to do while sitting down probably worked best for us so that he wouldn't immediately want to get up from going to the bathroom. We had him sit down until we knew that he was more comfortable about going, then let him go like a " big boy " .
