Guest guest
I choose the RNY because I wouldn't have to go back for adjustments. My friend has it and has lost a lot of weight but everytime she has an adjustment she has to start the routine all over of getting used to eating. I also choose the RNY because I had diabetes, and didn't want something inside me. Kathy 220/31/
Guest guest
Hi. I'm new here and have been lurking for around a month. I have decided to go the WLS route. I had the workshop, dietician visit, psych visit and surgeon visit at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. I have read a lot of material and joined a lap band group in addition to this group. My ideal goal of goals would be to lose 150 lbs., even 100 would be okay. My question is this: How did you decide on the surgery you chose? My surgeon says that either lap band or RNY would work for me. He is open to both and said that it is my decision. However, he said that with my youngish age (41) and my BMI (51) that he'd probably recommend RNY as he thinks I'd be happier with the results. I like the less-invasive aspect of the lap band, though. How did you (or your surgeon) decide your type of surgery and why? Thank you! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi , glad to have you with us. My surgeon walked in and said we are doing the RNY on you because the results are much more positive then the Lap band. I went in believing I wanted the Lap, but grateful I walked away with the RNY. I have heard a few people say that they have had to go in and get the Lap tightened or had to have RNY in the end anyways.. I do not know what is best for you considering I do not know your doctor, etc.. but I know that the RNY was the way to go for me. I trust my dr. Best Wishes!! Shauna 343/82/261 " linda s. Guest guest
Hi !!! Welcome to the group!!! I went the RNY route. I know with my eating addiction I needed something permanent and if I was going to have any surgery to fix this I was going all the way. With RNY you lose weight faster, which worked for me I didn't get discouraged. I know the lap band does work well for some people. I also know a girl who is 1 year out following all the rules and is down 50 lbs. At a year I was down about (approx) 110 lbs. It is just a choice you need to make. If I had to do it again I would do the RNY again. It worked well for me!! If you have anymore questions please ask!! Good luck Hun!!!!!!!!! Hugs!!! > > Hi. Guest guest
I picked RnY because I figured if I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna go all the way. I also kept finding statistics saying that people in the 50 and over BMI range had more long-term success with RnY than with Lap, and I didn't like the idea of having to go back for fills over and over with the lap band to find the " sweet spot, " so to speak. I tend to have bad luck with things like that, plus I don't have insurance and will only be able to afford this one time with the basic follow-ups, not continued band adjustments. How did you decide? Guest guest
That was pretty much my reasoning for going ahead & doing the RNY also. I'm self pay & by the time I pay for all the follow up fills & such I might as well have had the RNY! Guest guest
, I was originally leaning towards lap-band myself, but have decided to go with RNY because the lap-band requires so many followup visits for adjustments for the rest of your life. As they said in the seminar I went to " How many of us have the same insurance we did 10 years ago? How do you know if your insurance 10 years from now will cover the yearly adjustments you need? " They just wanted to make sure we were aware of the fact that you need an adjustment (or 2) every year for the rest of your life. In addition, lap-band people lose weight a bit slower than RNY, and lap-band people don't have dumping syndrome - which means you can eat sugary foods and have no physical backlash. I, for one, need the physical backlash that keeps me from my binge foods. So I am choosing RNY. Mindy Check out my website/blog: http://www.myspace.com/mindyswls How did you decide? Hi. Guest guest
I am scheduled for my RNY on August 3rd and cannot wait. I choose the bypass over the lapband due to the longer history of success with the bypass especially for people with diabetes. The bypass procedure has been done since the mid 1960's. The lapband is still relatively new and I could not find any data on 10-15-20 year long terms results/effects on patients. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Hi and WELCOME! I chose RNY because my insurance would not pay for a Lap Band. I am soooo glad they didn't. Personally, if you want/need to lose 150 pounds you should choose RNY. The weight loss with a band is SLOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. Some people only loose 50 pounds in a YEAR! In 13 months I lost 141 pounds with my RNY. The lap band must be adjusted or you can eat back the weight loss. The RNY keeps me in check. You can't defeat your pouch unless you abuse your new life style. Of course, the choice is yours. Do your research and talk to your surgeon! Best wishes! Robyn Group Owner > > Hi.
