Guest guest
I have a crazy question: Hypothetical situation: Let's say we start with the GHT for our 3 year old, then after a year decide it was not the right decision and choose to stop. Does something happen to the body's own natural ability to produce GH if you start giving it artificially? (Our son is not GHD, but a RSS child believed to have night time GH release problems). Are there other things to consider? A related question: Why is there such strictness with not missing a dose? Does missing a dose merely make the body grow less fast, or are there medical implications? What is the harm in taking a break for a week and then coming back to it? (I'm sure this has been answered here, so I apologize for the repeat question). Guest guest
Hi Katy, I don't think I've seen this question on the listserve! We only just started growth hormone for Ross and maybe another parent whose child has been on GH a lot longer can answer your questions better than I can (Jodi??, ??). From the informatoin that we have been given about growth hormone and the research that we have done ourselves, it does not alter the body's own natural ability to produce growth hormone, so stopping it at any given point wouldn't " hurt " your child. We had questions about taking a break or skipping a dose the other day at our teaching session. We were told that the only problem with taking a break is that the growth potential is diminished. If you only take the GH for a couple of days a week or if you take it sporadically, it will never be known how much more growth a child would have gotten if they had taken it every day. So yes, it will make the body grow less fast. There are no medical implications for not taking it every day (please, someone correct me if I am wrong).
