Guest guest
Has anyone done the comprehensive testing from Geneva labs (formerly Great Smokeys)? Is it worth it? Is it expensive? Would any of the results potentially negate insurance benefits if I ordered the test on myself bypassing a doctor? Thanks! Shonda SCD 5.5months Happy New Year all you SCDers!!! Guest guest
Hi Shonda,My doc ordered this for me and my insurance covered it. I'm not sure whether insurance would have covered it if I ordered it without my doctor's letterhead. In the end, it showed a bacterial overgrowth (anaerobic) which we treated with an antibiotic. You can get more information about the test here:http://www.gdx.net/home/assessments/cdsa/index.htmlBest, Nina in MA----- Original Message ---- Has anyone done the comprehensive testing from Geneva labs (formerly Great Smokeys)? Guest guest
Shonda, You may also want to look into Metametrix lab in Georgia. http://www.metametrix.com/content/Home We just learned about them and are waiting results on their GI Stool Effects test for my son. http://gifx.metametrix.com/ We prepaid through a clinician, and are going to submit to insurance, hopefully for reimbursement. If I was doing it again, I'd use their insurance claim process - the prepay way offered a discount, but it may not be worth it if the submission process is complicated. And it seems like the prepay probably should have been directly to Metametrix, not our clinician, but we were so anxious to get the test done, we just followed her direction, but I think she's new to using them. http://www.metametrix.com/content/PatientServices/PaymentOptions Regardless of the payment method/insurance, the test seems very comprehensive. We'll know results in another week or so I believe. Sally mother of Mark CD 4/07, SCD 8/
Guest guest
Hi Shonda. Yes, I had stool testing before I found a GI who diagnosed me with CD. A local lab (Seattle) was recommended by an Environmental Doctor for a full GI panel. It covers a-z and showed that I had low pancreatic enzymes, yeast, high gliaden intolerance (I guess that’s supposed to be pretty conclusive for wheat testing) and to top it off Crytosporidum from water I guess. The lab is legally bound to tell the CDC and local The health dept. of outbreaks so they called me (that was such a scary call) I spoke to their epidemiologist who said GI docs are in denial about this but the rise of outbreaks is increasing . So, I’d have to say YES quite enthusiastically to testing. I will never eat wheat again that’s for sure ! Had I not been tested I might have gone back to wheat after my 2 years on SCD. Best Wishes and health in 2008. CD 2- years SCD -11 months
