Guest guest
Ann I would think they are different, but it all depends on what your using it for? constipation or fat calories? I read somewhere that mct oil is given instead of fats. But you seem to be giving olive oil instead. Some one help me out here please? I'm getting more and more confused over the oil. We have been on this site for a few months waiting for the diet to begin. I am (like someone else had said) arming myself with as much information that I possibly can. If I have been given the correct information, we should be starting on the diet by next month at the latest. And boy, we'll I still need all the help I can get. > > Ann, Can you explain to me why you use olive oil instead of mct? > > Thanks
Guest guest
> > Ann, Can you explain to me why you use olive oil instead of mct? > > Thanks Arwr and , A good site on MCT oil: http://www.neonatology.org/ref/meds/med62.html This oil is easy to digest...but is still a saturated fat...but so is fatty meat, butter, cream, regular yogurt, ghee(clarified butter),corn oil, palm oil, lard, whole milk...so if there is a problem with digesting fats this would be the oil to use it seems. Also...a site touting the great benefits of MCT oil... http://www.piccadillybooks.com/books/item0056.html This oil is not recommended to replace all the oils in the diet...which makes sense...the keto kids really need the Omega- 3s...also not to be used for frying...but none of us would fry anything for them anyway...explains to start slowly...next.. http://www.iherb.com/mctoil.html Health food stores should carry the oil. Flax seed oil is an Omega-3, should be fresh (at health food storesin the refrig section), and kept refrigerated...the ground seeds if vacuum packed when you buy them and kept refrigerated are even better. Salmon, tuna , and even sardines, canned w/ bones (crush them up), are also good source of Omega-3 fats Polyunsaturated fats:...pumpkin seeds walnuts almonds...organic, fresh, ground up and put in foods are good also. Monounsaturated fats are olive oil...and for autism, rice bran oil http://autismcoach.com seeds Trans Fats are BAD...hydrogenated veg oils, stick margarine, tub margarine...do butter From what I see with all this searching is : A combination of saturated and polyunsaturated and monounsaturated and Omega-3 fats are ok... If there are liver problems, MCT would be the oil/fat of choice... because there would be impaired fat metabolism, so medium chain triglycerides here...limit salt... I have some sites about liver disease and dietary info. I read someone...about avacado...great...mashed great way of getting fat in...mixing...is an unsaturated fat...one is about 300cal and 30 gram of fat..mmm. I have some sites about fats that are great if anyone is interested. Healthy fats are:grass fed meat almonds (can grind to add)...taste good macadamia nuts avacado olive oil coconut oil (beneficial medium chain fatty acids) walnuts Cholesterol...eggs (can use new DHA eggs) cream cod liver oil Another food count site is: http://ww.foodcount.com/Index.cfm? Method=Diet.Details & FoodDes_SurveyCode=82103500 Another site praising MCT is: http://www.preventionisbest.com/saturatedfat.html A good site about the bad..bad...bad Trans-fats: http://www.mynchen.demon.co.uk/The%20ketogenic%20diet/Understanding% 20the%20ketogenic%20diet/Trans-%20fats.htm An informative site about butter and margarine...very simply explained: http://www.mychen.demon.co.uk/The%20ketogenic%20diet/Understanding% 20the%20ketogenic%diet/Butter%20and520margarine%20 Kidneys also play a role in fat metabolism... This stuff really gets complicated...a blend of oils...as much veg as can be tolerated with the diet... Hope this info is helpful...I just get soooo full...looking for my daughter and granddaughter, Kiara, 2, IS, CVI,CP, Ep, dev del, keto soon. I really appreciate everyones info on this site as well. diane ake cream cod liver oil
