As far as I can tell, there's nothing illegal in the simethicone. It's an anti gas agent. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simethicone >> Any tips for what to eat first afterward to prevent pain or diarrhea? << I'd do intro diet, myself -- and you might want to have things ready because I suspect you won't feel like cooking afterwards! Not that it will be BAD, just that you're likely to be very tired. (My Dad usually sleeps all day afterwards.) He's not SCD, but he found some yogurt with a little honey very pleasant. The electrolyte drink is here: http://www.scdrecipe.com/recipes-drink/electrolyte-drink/ and you can also substitute about 7.5 ounces of legal fruit juice for the honey if you prefer. I seem to recall that Kim uses some electrolyte powders, which, while not technically SCD legal, work for her. I'm not remembering what they are just at the moment. Guest guest
I have the same question - it's not my first colonoscopy, just my first on SCD. I got two prescriptions, to better the odds. One for Moviprep:http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/label/2006/021881lbl.pdfDESCRIPTIONMoviPrep® consists of 4 separate pouches (2 of pouch A and 2 of pouch containing white to yellow powder for reconstitution. Each pouch A contains 100 grams of polyethylene glycol (PEG) 3350, NF, 7.5 grams of sodium sulfate, USP, 2.691 grams of sodium chloride, USP, and 1.015 grams of potassium chloride, USP, plus the following excipients: aspartame, NF (sweetener), acesulfame potassium, NF (sweetener), and lemon flavoring. Each pouch B contains 4.7 grams of ascorbic acid, USP and 5.9 grams of sodium ascorbate, USP. When 1 pouch A and 1 pouch B are dissolved together in water to a volume of 1 liter, MoviPrep® (PEG 3350, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium ascorbate, and ascorbic acid) is an oral solution having a lemon taste. The entire, reconstituted, 2-liter MoviPrep® colon preparation contains 200 grams of PEG 3350, 15 grams of sodium sulfate, 5.38 grams of sodium chloride, 2.03 grams of potassium chloride, 9.4 grams of ascorbic acid, and 11.8 grams of sodium ascorbate plus the following excipients: aspartame (sweetener), acesulfame potassium (sweetener), and lemon flavoring.********Although I see the last 3 ingredients are illegals..And the other is Osmoprep:http://www.tabletprep.com/osmoprep-colon-prep/patient-information.aspxActive ingredient: sodium phosphateInactive ingredients: polyethylene glycol 8000, magnesium stearateOsmoPrep is gluten-free.Anyone use either of these on SCD? Last time I used visicol and I found it much easier than otherpreps had been. And looking it up, I find these ingredients:http://www.healthsupportsystems.com/drug_reference/VISICOL_TABLET.htmlActive IngredientsSODIUM PHOSPHATE, MONOBASIC, MONOHYDRATE,SODIUM PHOSPHATE, DIBASIC, ANHYDROUSInctive Ingredientsmicrocrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, colloidal silicon dioxideAnyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Or anecdotes aboutwhat they used? TIA,MaraI'm doing the fasting and Fleets for prep. They want me to take simethicone (I think that's right) tablets right before too. I doubt these are legal. Do I just do it, and not worry about that since this is a procedure, or what? Any tips for what to eat first afterward to prevent pain or diarrhea?Oh, and could someone please repost the recipe for the electolyte drink? Thanks!ShondaSCD 6 months
Guest guest
Hi Shonda I certainly second the suggestions made by Marilyn. I had a colonoscopy before I started SCD, so went ahead and used the prep. I was ordered to use. Next time (next year probably) I'll try to find an option that has the least amount of illegals. I know my reaction to the colonoscopy was more extreme than most people experience. My body reacts unexpectedly to all the tests and procedures I've needed to take in the past 5 years. But I had a rather extreme reaction to the colonoscopy, and it took about a week for my body to recover. I would suggest you plan to eat the softest, easy-to-digest foods for at least the first 24 hours afterwards, and be able to rest and take things very easy for at least a few days. Ease back into "normal" life, so to speak. Marilyn gave you the link to the SCD electrolyte drink. I have modified it to suit my cranky stomach, but I use it regularly, along with another one called E-Lyte which appears to be legal (and so far I'm not noticing any bad reactions to it). I go through a lot of electrolyte drink in a week's time, especially in the warmer months (which in my area is about 8 months of the year) so I find it helpful to have the Elyte concentrate available too. But the SCD electrolyte drink is a staple item for me. Next time I have to prep. for a colonoscopy or major surgery I plan to drink lots of it. Kim M. Guest guest
Jodi, did the prep make you sick? Was it the large golytely or something similar? If so, that can make you really sick. It made my mom so sick she couldn't go thru with the colonoscopy. Now she does a couple of days of really light diet, then the day before does a liquid diet and the fleets phospha-soda. This method has never made her sick. Shonda SCD 6 months
Guest guest
Thanks for all the tips. I'll need to make something to take with me in case they want me to eat something, and have food ready at home. I think the intro diet is a good idea. Plus, some yogurt too. I've been uncertain as to whether I have problems with the dairy, but right now I think getting the probiotics into me are more important than any sensitivity I may have. Thanks for the links Marilyn! Thanks all! Shonda SCD 6 months
