Guest guest
[NCC comments] Some persons with 8+ surgery hours, super-swollen face tongue etc looking like that HumanAlien at " Alien Resurrection " (Alien 4 with Sigourney Weaver and Wynona Ryder) and at 3 or 4 months, normal face, doing very well, driving everywhere all day, moving his/her neck without problems, no headaches, no pain. Some persons with 2.5 or 3 surgery hours, mild swollen face, looking good at the hospital room and at 3 or 4 months post-op they are still the same, same symptoms or worse, useless surgery and planning a second surgery for the next year. D.G. /\/\/\ When they brought Rick out and settled him in his room, we finally got to go in and see him. Ooooooooooooh. Wish they'd made us wait til morning!! And of course, the " normal " swelling was made ten times worse by the fact that Rick's surgery went 8 HOURS. Yep, 8. Chip had warned me that Rick's face would be a bit swollen afterwards because of the face-down position he would be in during surgery. There was just no way to prepare for what I saw!! And his tongue was so swollen from being intubated........I thought they were trying to keep my husband and give me an alien in his place! :-) I have to admit, I'm not squemish, but seeing him like that, coupled with the stress of being in the surgical waiting room for 8 hours, well, I just ran back to the hotel and cried and cried. Just to set the record straight, but in no way chastising *G*, Rick is NOT doing VERY well, though he is able to work and drive which we are thankful for as many cannot, he still experiences pain, numbness and a bunch of new symptoms that showed up immediately after surgery. Ah, but he is " complicated " and " bizarre " (all of his doctor's will tell you so). Wendi -- New Mexico (Still running behind in posts.....)
