Guest guest
I don't know if I am qualified to offer advice, as i am relatively new to the SCD. However, nutrition is my thing and I have recently had great results just starting the SCD.Here is what my two cents is: Absolutely no peanut butter for at least 2 months. This set me back two days when i first started the diet. Go real easy on the dates (eliminate them for now if you can) (try sauteed apples instead.) no salad, no beans. Just give your insides a rest. I just started the diet 13 days ago and was in a lot of pain also. No formed BM in months. Today, I had my fist formed BM and absolutely no pain the past 3 days. The custard recipe has been my savior for a sweet fix. (in the BTVC bood) And of course the yogurt. (with a little honey.)It sounds like you know what is bothering your tummy, so listen to that and just be gentle with yourself and the foods you eat. Good luck and I hope this was helpful, Addie UC 8 years SCD 13 days.anaellitt wrote: I have been following SCD since November of 2007. I have IBS and I am gluten and lactose intolerant. I am overweight, I am five feet tall and currently weigh 168. I am slowing gaining back the 50 pounds I lost on Weight Watchers. It seems if I even think about counting calories or points, I binge. I binge on SCD sweets, peanut butter, dates, and honey. This is better than eating all the darn candy that seems to be everywhere but gaining weight is not good and neither is binge eating. Everywhere I go I am offered cake, chocolate, candy, donuts, pizza, this just stresses me out. I pack all my food, but somedays I just want to weep. I can't even eat out safely around here. The restaurants don't know what a real piece of chicken or beef looks like. Everything is flaked, formed or injected with seasonings. I went crazy last week and went off SCD and went to the gluten free diet. The GF diet has lots of supporters. It was easy for me to find GF friends to encourage me on a Gluten Free journey. People that are GF don't understand SCD. GF people do understand the stress of being different, but they don't understand not being able to eat certain foods. Almost every food is now avaiable GF. After a few days of the Gluten Free diet I was in so much pain I was crying. I am back on SCD. I am now unable to eat any cheeses when I could before. My stomach burns and my guts hurt when I eat. Does this mean I need to stop the salads, beans, lean homecooked meats and go back to ground beef, cooked, peeled vegetables and eliminate the salads for now? Go back to the intro diet for a few days until you clear your system out. Chicken soup, chicken, beef, fish, eggs, DCCC, yogurt, etc. And then reintroduce more slowly. As for stopping binge eating, maybe go the opposite direction and try to severely lower carbs for a while. I was eating dates regularly and plenty of honey and now, for various reasons, I'm eliminating a lot of the fructose fruits. And I'm having lowered carbs craving and feeling much better in just a few weeks. I think that was holding back my progress. In my case, I think the bad bugs had transfered had repopulated themselves and were eating the higher fructose items in my diet - now, with minimized fructose, the cravings for that stuff is largely gone. Which makes it easier. Mara SCD 9.5 months
Guest guest
Hi Karina, Have you heard of the Beck diet? It's not a diet that talks about what food to eat, but deals with psychological issues of dieting and food. It may be a nice complement to the SCD diet for you. It mainly deals with weight management, but addresses binging, cravings etc. The website is www.beckdietsolution.com. I don't have personal experience with it, but have heard from others who have found it useful. For the short term, you may want to go back to the simple foods for a few days while your gut settles down. I hope you feel better soon, Kat IBS SCD since 01/23/2008 http://scdkatfood.blogspot.com/ > > I have been following SCD since November of 2007. I have IBS and I am > gluten and lactose intolerant. Guest guest
Dear Kat, I ordered the Beck books on Amazon yesterday, thanks. All the kind replies helped so much yesterday. I was feeling very down. I don't think you realize how much better I feel emotionally, I found your blog! And your blog led me to other SCD blogs. Real people with humor. I need humor. I spent a couple of hours reading blogs and laughing. I hadn't laughed in a long time. You, all of you, saved me. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Karina, Yeah the blogs have been really helpful to me. It helps to see people leading normal lives while following specific diets. I keep seeing on blogs about 'cooking marathons' and I finally understand it. Next week I have a bunch of stuff lined up to be cooked. While I don't have a problem of being overweight, I have the opposite of being underweight. I sometimes feel like I'm scared of food, since so often I've gotten really sick after a meal. So I'm also working on the psychological aspects of IBS and diets. I definitely need to know I'm not alone out there, so I started a blog and started reading other people's blogs. I hope you find the Beck diet helpful, and keep reading blogs online, it helps to feel normal.
