Colleen - I can only imagine how livid you must be. I am in the process of

booking my airline ticket for April 6 appt. and was somewhat worried that

would happen to me. Now I'm really worried! I think I heard of someone else a

few weeks ago who's appt was cancelled too. I hope you can reschedule and

make it soon-

Hi Colleen,

Okay, I have to tell you, that the administrative support/response time from Dr.

H.'s office (for our experiences) have been very, very poor. I don't want to go

into detail here, but suffice it to say, that it is the most unpolished medical

office operation I have ever experienced; The front office staff does not present

itself professionally in several areas. Even our little yokel pediatrician (and

staff) who works out of his house has a more responsive, professional,

relationship with his patients.

That said,

We have to put up with it, because we need Dr. H. so desparately.

I hate to get too testy with them..I have tried to give feedback in constructive

manners in the past, but it is really hard to get changes.

Naisha called me a couple of weeks before we were to leave CA for NYC to

re-schedule. I told her we couldn't come another time, that we'd

coordinated it with a business trip of my husband's and that we had

non-refundable tickets. I politely said that we'd just have to cancel and

that I'd e-mail Dr. H and see what she thought I should do. She was very

nice and went and talked to Dr. H and came back and said they'd make it

work. Of course, this was just scheduling, she wasn't heading out of town.

You must be terribly frustrated! Good luck with everything!

Hi ,

When my wife was pregnant with the doctor did notice slow

growth(IUGR). By the last trimester of her pregnancy she was having an

ultrasound once a week to monitor growth. I'm pretty sure they did an

amniocentesis and of course it was negative. So RSS was not mentioned. Only

thing that was said was is small. They estimated around six pounds

and she was 4lbs 12oz full term. In short we do not feel the OB/GYN really

missed anything since there is no testing that can confirm RSS before birth.

To my friends,

My due date was pushed back - 3 times before they finally put me on bed rest

- strictly on my left side for 2 weeks, then into the hospital for another

5days for fetal monitoring - then when the baby had a few irregularities in

her heart beat - they took her c-section at what they thought was about

25weeks until she was born when they said she was developed like a 32 weeker,

but the size of about 22wks(i think it was 22 - but 1lb, 7oz,anyway). I

still look back at that and wonder if they would've just let me go to full

term, would she have been fine and not had to spend 3mos in the hospital?

Sure she probably would've weighed 3lbs or so, but at least everything

would've been developed, and may not be so far behind. Oh well - we can't

dwell on the past, eh?

Hi,

Welcome to the list, I haven't been very active lately, I've been

reading all the posts, but with everything going on at home responding has

been difficult.

As for your question about known problems around Christmas we had a big

discussion about prenatal growth and a lot of us knew before birth that our

baby's were in trouble. I don't know if it was a blessing to know or a

curse. I knew there was a problem with at 21 weeks.

Suzanne,

I am so jealous of you!!!! I was type 2 diabetic before surgery, but never

needed medication. I became completely asymptomatic after WLS and my sugars

became normal. Nine weeks into my pregnacy I was put on insulin because my

sugars were running high. I was so depressed as I had WLS so that I would

have a healthy, diabetic-free pregnancy, and it turned out to be not the case.

I am now 14 weeks along and my insulin is constantly needing adjustments.

And, it does get progressively worse as the pregnancy goes on. Damn that

placenta and hormones!!!! LOL

Congratulations, Suzanne!!! Isn't it just too cool to hear that swish-swish

sound? : ) I'm glad you don't have any signs of diabetes... that is such a

bummer. Can I be nosy and ask why an amnio? Do they think there's a problem

with the baby?

Hello everyone,

I saw my Dr. last Tuesday and i got to listen to my

baby's heartbeat :-)

Everything is fine and my health is good. So far no

diabetes this was my main concern since i had diabetes

prior to my surgery.

But my test came back ok. Next step is my

amniocentheses and i'm sooooooooo scared of this.

I lost 3 pounds since i got pregnant but my belly is

getting big :-)

I'm starting to show already but they say it's normal

since it's my second child.

Anyway everything looks great so far and hearing my

baby's heartbeat was soooooooooooooo great.

I bought a fetal monitor to be able to hear the heart

when i'm home but i'm too early in my pregnacy to hear

it i'll have to be a little more patient.

Cari,

I just had a healthy baby girl two days ago! One thing I would suggest is

waiting the prescribed time that your surgeon suggests after surgery before

attempting to get pregnant (normally about a year or so -- you are going to

need to use protection or abstain in order to not get pregnant during that

time). This maximizes your chances of being able to deliver proper nutrition

to yourself and the baby. Also, PCO can make it impossible for you to get

pregnant however weight loss can help rectify the situation. I know -- I had

PCO and infertility treatments did nothing. I had the surgery, lost the

weight and haven't had problems since then. Nor did I have a problem getting

pregnant -- my husband and I were lucky in that the first time we attempted

we got pregnant. The baby will be properly nourished but you will have to

change mindsets when you get pregnant -- you can't worry about losing weight

or not gaining. Rather you have to eat -- maybe more often than you think (I

was eating every 90 minutes for quite a few months) in order to insure that

I got enough calories to function and support the baby. Risks of pregnancy?

Not necessarily. Not if you wait for a year or so after surgery when your

nutrition has stabilized. Not if you don't have other problems. Surgery

itself doesn't make a pregnancy high risk -- mine wasn't. And it is very

possible to have healthy children afterwards -- I did as have several on

this list.

hi and welcome

my name is julie and i am about deliver....yeah!!!!

i didnt wait long enough post op i know but i had pcos and didnt believe i

would ever get pregnant and wasnt careful enough.....a lesson now well

learned.

the only reason i am high risk is nutrition intake or lack there of. i do

eat very often, ok, all the time just to keep going. i have gained 3 1/2

lbs now from my lowest point also achieved during pregnancy. i had an us

last thurs and the baby they figure weighs between 7-8 lbs. this cant be

real good for me...obviously the baby is doing fine but he is not totally

out of the woods yet!!!

you can get pregnant post op and safely carry the baby. i too recommend you

wait till the dr gives you the ok. my poor body feels like it has been

beaten up and stomped on by a heard of elephants. i dont regret for a

second having the surgery or being pregnant. i do wish i would have waited

a few more months.

i wish you luck in your future decisions.

Hi, my name is Cari and I am going to be having gastric bypass

surgery. I have already had a miscarriage due to my weight which

caused diabetes. I do have PCOS and read that that can cause an

increased chance of miscarriage.

My question is, after having the surgery, does the baby get the

correct amount of nutrition? Are there any risks during pregnancy

that are related to the gastric bypass? I want to reassure myself

that after I have the surgery, I will be able to have healthy

children.

dont keep me in suspense...im way too tired!!!

lenore, where are you? i need something to keep me awake : ) i mean

besides the baby!!!

whats going on? lots of rocking, feeding and diaper changes. ok, lets get

serious.

she is absolutely gorgeous. she is worth every one of those minutes i am

not sleeping. she sleeps really good during the night usually but not last

night. she doesnt sleep much during the day except totally on accident.

just when you think shes sleeping and put her to bed her eyes pop right open

and she gets this BIG grin like ha, ha mom...fooled ya!!

she is just like me all the way the poor kid. she looks like dad though. i

can just see us going round and round when she is a teenager. she is every

bit as bullheaded and stubborn as i am and i remind myself of that when she

gets that way. there is this ad on tv for mci worldwide and the mom is

telling her mom how bad the little girl is being and she is saying but mom,

you just dont understand and you have never seen a child like this and the

older mom is going oh yes i have and she is looking at the picture of the

younger mom. i used to just cry when that ad came on....but now i totally

understand. what a child!!! i love her to pieces.

this is my first day back to work and it is awful. i was going stir crazy

being at home. i didnt want to come back but on the other hand, its nice to

have other adults to talk to too. besides, i missed having a computer.

we had to go to the dr last week. she now weighs 11 lb and 14 oz...85%, she

is 23 3/8 inches...90%, her head is now 16 1/4 inches...95%. so much for

having a little preemie : ) even the neonatologist said she was expecting

to see a little skin and bones baby and she was not by any means. all are

doing well.

i actually weighed 200 lbs for about 3 days...thats what my drivers license

says i weigh....then the stress factor takes over and i gained a little but

have been bouncing between 205 & 210....down about 155 lbs. that is the

least i have ever weighed. we took 9 boxes of old clothes to good will. it

was like getting rid of my best friend kind of like when we lost the ability

to eat like we used to. oh well, i better send this to try and catch more

people. its nice to have my family back.

denise i cant wait to get in and see that sweet baby.

rita, how are you doing on your venture....guess i should read some more

first. i only have about 700 messages to go.
