Hi Jodi

I can tell you that due to my upper GI disorders (Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, biliary dyskinesia, gastroparesis, poor digestive motility meaning C.) I can only eat about half of the items from your list. The rest cause RUQ pain and nausea, and stop my digestive motility; a few I stay away from because they trigger a surge in yeast levels.

It's not just fiber, it's also the fat content of the items, and the "heat" level (why I have to eat bland) that limit my food choices. Some of the items on your list are much too high in these three things for my combination of upper GI disorders to cope with.

But, remember, your set of problems may not be anything like mine. So you'll need to continue testing and experimenting. What you can eat now may be a lot more limited than what your digestion can handle after another year on SCD. But my overall impression from your list is that most items are actually fairly high in fat and sugar content, and some are also high in fiber and spiciness. At least they'd certainly set off my RUQ symptoms!

So, from your list I can eat:

oranges in juice and diluted by 500%

apples made into applesauce

lemon in juice once or twice a week

spinach cooked

zucchini cooked

yellow squash cooked (no winter squashes)

carrots cooked, but only 1 or 2x week due to beta carotene sensitivity

garlic once every two weeks

parsley

fish

eggs

poultry

one or two cuts of beef that are lean; nothing ground

only a few herbs and spices, on the cool side, and only a tiny bit at a time

vanilla, almond extract

almond flour if used in small amounts; mix pecan and almond flour together, and limit myself to one muffin or piece of bread per day.

Extra virgin olive oil and butter if used in small amounts, no more than a combined total of 2 tsp. per day

All the other things you list give me problems of one sort or another. Most of them trigger upper GI symptoms, but a few also aggravate my immune system or raise my yeast levels too high for comfort. My yeast levels rise when my digestion can't cope with something successfully, so I have to be just as cautious.

Remember, you'll have to just keep trying different foods and combinations of foods until you find a core group that don't cause as severe a symptom. Each of us have to pay attention to our body's signals to find out what works best for us at whatever stage of healing we are in.

...........i dont really eat spicy or foods to high in fiber. maybe i am wrong?i find that i can only eat lets say the outer part of pineapple asopposed to the part closest to core as that will make it act up.i dont eat to many fruits and veggies in general.my staples are; (i make a yogurt smoothie every day)bananas (brown spots) strawberries oranges (juice, or i eat it and mostly suck out the juice and throwthe rest out) pineapple (what i explained above)apples (peeled and seeded)lemonveggies: i try to eat 1 veg every day but it can be problematic.spinach - which can be problematic and give me D at timeszucchinisquashcarrotsonion, garlictomatoparsleyasparagus cucumberbell pepperi eat some olives, cashew butter (which can make RUQ flare)i eat fish, seafood, meats, eggs (fatty meat is a serious no no)yogurt, dccc, a little cheese, just made dripped yogurt.i sweeten things with honey. i found a brand from my local farmersmarket that doesn't make me sick.i also love using vanilla extract.fresh herbs- and dry herbs.black pepper doesn't seem to bother me at all.i get almond flour treats from scd bakery- but i have to limit that asthe almond flour makes me feel heavy.extra virgin olive oil, macadamia nut oil, butter.very small amount. would like to learn a method of cooking thatdoesnt call for so much oil.i would like to try coconut oil this week.i used to eat avacados a lot but that can also be problematic.i am planning on trying mango and making mango sorbet this week.(that is if i can find some lovely mangos which i doubt- since it isntthe season)thats about it..what is high in fiber from what i typed above?and i will pay more attention!jodi
